For the longest time, Dolores Jane Umbridge had been afraid she had been utterly defeated. It had felt like years upon years stuck in this deplorable hellhole and she was starting to feel...hopeless. Her usual confidence had dimmed, almost being snuffed out like that Diggory's boy's life.
(That thought did make her smile.)
And then, something amazing had happened. Umbridge didn't know what it was exactly but suddenly, things were...available to her. This place, this Special Collections housed numerous things but none of them had been able to help Umbridge plot her escape and eventual rise to glory again until the incident. Apparently, everyone had been so concerned about hugging and kissing and doing whatever it was pathetic humans did to notice that Special Collections was now teeming with hardware that Umbridge had been collecting.
You see, no one really knew how smart Umbridge was. No one really paid attention to her collecting bits of rock here and there or grabbing springs and screws. No one paid attention to a woman clad in ragged pink clothes reading books on time travel and alternate universes. No one, apparently, cared.
And this delighted Umbridge. She was left to her own devices to build something. And this Something was going to return her to prominence. She knew this. She could feel it and anyone that stood in her way was going to pay. She didn't have her wand (yet) but she was still a powerful witch.
Umbridge bided her time. She collected. She hoarded. She made uses of crystals and dials. She used duct tape to piece things together and fine tuned the clock she'd stuck on the front of this device, this artifact. She perfected her time turner. It was grotesque looking, even Umbridge could admit that but it didn't matter.
As long as it worked. There was...one thing missing though. And that thing was something Umbridge had been secretly keeping for years now. A shard, just a shard, of the wand that had been broken so long ago. That was what she needed.
She was finally ready.
The building of the artifact had taken so long and now she was ready. Without time to think about it, Umbridge jammed that shard into the time turner and turned time backwards. No one but her really knew what was happening when everything seemed to slow down and then spin rapidly in reverse.
And no one but her realized what had happened when she found herself back several years, face to face with Anakin Skywalker on the lawn of the dorms. Her wand, her glorious, amazing wand was back in her hand and her clothes were a vivid and amazing pink again!
She'd done it! She'd turned time backwards and now she was in the moment. She was ready to fix where she'd gone wrong. Anakin Skywalker, that long haired thorn in her side was going to be her first victim. She was going to step on his stupid robes and make an example of him. And she was going to delight in it.
"Avada Kedavra!" Umbridge snapped, thrusting her wand at Anakin and watching the Killing Curse hit the Jedi square in the chest. Sure, it might have been more fun to Crucio him first but this, this was what she'd wanted for so, so long. And even the all powerful Anakin Skywalker couldn't withstand a Killing Curse. The spell hit him square in the chest and he fell backwards, eyes open and body still.
Dead. Gone. Demolished.
Dolores Jane Umbridge was back.
