She looks at his hands, wrapped in bandages, beneath her own fingers and is struck by the surprising truth that this feels completely natural to her. She no longer hesitates to touch him and she wonders how that happened. She remembers sitting in front of a pool, her hand on his knee and his hand covering hers and supposes it would be easy to think that was it.
But really, it's been a collection of so many things, the slow building of trust between them. She runs her fingers lightly over his damaged hand and thinks how far they've come.
