Sam: Good evening, Fandom, and hello to anyone who might be tuning in for the first or second time.
Andy: What he said. Welcome to the crazy.
Sam: Awww, it hasn't been that crazy yet.
Andy: Well no, not for Fandom. But Fandom normal is crazy compared to a lot of places. That's what makes it fun.
Sam: Everyone I've met so far seems to be taking things in stride instead of being freaked out by everything. That's a good sign.
Andy: Yes. Though maybe they're just in shock.
Sam: I don't think they'd be as friendly if they were in shock.
Andy: Point.
Classes
Sam: Classes are back in session this week, which means...well, a lot of introductions, probably.
Build Your Own Philosophy did the
introduction thing by completing the sentence "All is..." which makes me think of bad Icelandic music and probably proves why it's a good thing I didn't sign up for that class. At the end,
Joan and Liir were picked to be the TAs.
The
Horror 101 students learned about the
definition of horror, and
introduced themselves by talking about something they're afraid of. Before everyone left,
Alex and Chloe were chosen to be the TAs.
The
Japanese Etiquette and Tradition students got to take their shoes off and
sit on cushions, but the catch was that they had to do part of their
introduction in Japanese. At the end of class, Mr. Algren asked
Ino to be his TA.
The
World Mythology class got the
definition of a myth, and then
discussed their favorite myths, after which
Jaina and Mennolly were asked to be TAs.
The
Outdoor Fitness and Strategy students got an
overview of the class before taking a
warm up jog around the school. There were
introductions, of course, followed by a series of
fitness tests, and at the end, Mr. Bond asked
Rose and Kyle to be his TAs again.
Gabrielle re-opened the library after the long break, and got a visit from
Bobby, who needed accounting textbooks, while
Mr. DeTamble, our very nice new librarian, worked in his office.
Andy: Have you met him yet? You're still going to work in the library right?
Sam: Yes, I still have my job, which is why he is our very nice new librarian. Ms. Pitt was in charge of
Study Hall today, and to say that I'm excited about having study hall time would be an understatement. Go ahead, call me a nerd, I don't care.
Andy: Why would I call you a nerd? I'm excited about it too.
Sam: See, this is why I like doing the broadcast with you, Andy.
Claire was there with cookies, and
Emma was there taking a long distance statistics class until Karla poked fun at her for doing math. There's nothing wrong with wanting to take more math classes!
Tony was making posters for the magic reserves, and he and Jack Priest got to talking about whether or not to use glitter, how some of the new students don't believe in magic, and about some of the weird customs of Karla's world. Just because the customs are different, that doesn't make them weird, guys.
Karla offered to help with the posters as well, promising that they'd be free of both glitter and spelling errors, and
Bobby asked about the reserves, since he didn't know anything about them.
Jack and Emma talked about her being an overachiever, which is a perfectly fine thing to be, thank you very much.
Karla was surprised to find people actually studying, and ended up talking to Jack about her trip to New York before showing off...something that I am not saying on the radio because it has to be a lie and I'm a polite fake big sibling.
*excited chittering*
Seriously? I still don't want to say it... But what if she does care?... Fine, she showed Jack her [microphone feedback]rings and seriously, Karla, those are not something to like, carry around outside of your bedroom. FYI and all.
Andy: Why does it not surprise me that the squirrels picked up on that?
Sam: Because they're dirty animals who love embarrassing us.
Bobby and Karla talked about their Christmas break trips, apparently without the show and tell Jack got.
Azula practiced her writing and got a thank you from Bobby for something she'd helped him with, and
Roy and Emma discussed math. Because it's called study hall. You know, in case people forgot.
Andy: The math version it sounds like, given the amount of people working on it.
Sam: We don't have a lot of math classes, so people have to take it where they can get it.
Mr. Stinson was in his office this morning, going through the student files. Hopefully just the new student files, and not the files on everyone, or that's kind of a scary thought.
Constable Fraser was doing some of his own paperwork, and
Cindy - Ms. Cindy? I feel weird calling teachers by their first names if I didn't know them as students - set up her new office.
Dorms
Andy: Over in the dorms,
Leia was hanging out in her room, when
Ben came by to meet her and answer Leia's questions about their family and how it all goes together.
Jaina found out she lives next door to her Mom -- and you know you're in Fandom when you can say that about living in the student dorms. There was confusion over which Chuck Leia is rooming with. Yeah, we do have a few of those around. If he looks like a skittle, it's Chuck Bass.
Sam: A skittle?
Andy: Yeah, a guy I met on Saturday who knows Chuck from back home, described the way he dressed like that. Cool, huh?
Ino listened to music in her room and
Francine nibbled cookies while sorting clothes in her room. She and
Dinah exchanged gifts and talked about Dinah's breakup with Jak.
Tara finally saw where Francine lives and asked about her break. And
Katchoo almost lost a strawberry cheesecake to Clocky when she got in. Would that be cheesecake abuse?
As usual for Monday mornings,
Arthur was in the salle bright and early to work out. He compared notes about the New York trip with
Dinah, and the note comparison led to Arthur asking if Dinah had been dropped on her head as a small child. Ouch, gee, I hope not. Though I suppose being dropped on your head is better than being fed demon blood -- or something.
Sam: Yeah, I'd say so too. You know, hypothetically.
Andy:
Merlin wondered if he should try the bird-thing again on purpose, to which Arthur's response was a firm no. Merlin also debated the bird thing with
Dinah and told her he missed sweets the most from when he was a bird. Aw. Though y'know you can have sweets as a human too.
Sam: He probably missed sweets while he was a bird, unless they were feeding him treats. I can't imagine that would work very well.
Andy: Depends on the sweet. And the bird.
Gunn stopped by to check the weapons and Arthur told him about some of the Fandom fights, which led to Gunn WTF'ing at the idea of angry vegetables. Yeah, welcome to Fandom. That kind of thing is pretty normal around here.
Dinah introduced herself to Gunn as well, but there's no word on if she tried to break his brain as well and if so, using what story.
Alex Karev went up to the roof this afternoon for a smoke, and was joined by
Liir and his broomstick. Alex said he thought people only rode broomsticks in fairy tales, and Liir told him it was his mother's.
Meanwhile, down on the deck,
Jacob had a shirt but no shoes. He and
Fiona introduced themselves and he told her about being good with engines and the reservation he grew up on.
Hannibal teased Jacob about seeming emo, but Jacob insisted he was just going to take a nap, to which Hannibal pointed out that beds are convenient for that sort of thing. Which yeah, but a lounger works in a pinch.
Sam: Maybe, but not when it's cold outside.
Andy: Some people just don't feel the cold.
Tahiri complained that it wasn't fair that Jacob could go barefoot when she has to wear boots to avoid losing toes to frostbite. Or, y'know, you could go barefoot and just stay inside.
Leda called Jacob 'Joe' but that was just her rhyming name thing, and then offered him ice cream.
Claudia told Jacob that she's now met other students from other times. She's now unsure if the island has a temporal anormaly to it or if this is a school for insane students. The answer is... yes.
Sam: All of the above, definitely.
Andy: Occasionally complicated by homicidal vegetables. And this evening in the second floor common room
Hinata had a book and Yei had a dangling toy. And
Elena brought Rookie by for a playdate.
Sam: Looks like it was like an animal party in there. Didi came by, and
Elena admited that she's worried about being a bad pet owner, but Didi assured her that it's easy. It really is, as long as you've got a good pet.
Andy: Or a good friend who's turned into an animal. See what Merlin was talking about earlier.
Sam: Ha, good point.
Bruce Wayne wanted to know if the common room was pet-owners only, and Elena explained that no, it was just pet-friendly-people only.
Hinata told Bruce about some of the stranger pets in the dorm, like the animated clock, and
Didi told Bruce that she would have brought her goldfish down if the bowl was more portable.
Hinata assured Spock that her kitten was friendly, and
Elena teased Spock by suggesting that he was in the common room because he'd missed her.
Didi told Spock that he was allowed to relax, and he insisted that for him, the way he was acting was him being relaxed.
Bruce joined Spock in the no-pet zone, and
Didi thanked Hinata for sharing her kitten with everyone in the common room.
Town
Sam:
Ender was back at Stark Industries, dealing with a banana in the equipment where bananas shouldn't be, and
Ben came by for his usual visit, to share coffee and talk about the new semester.
Alex was armed with coffee at the Magic Box,
Liz made sure everything was organized at The Arms,
Irulan was reading redecorating magazines at The Imperial Brim, and
Lacey was balancing her time at Luke's Diner between managing the staff and checking her Yule Log app. I guess maybe it's calming to look at?
Andy: Like fish.
Sam: Yeah, or a lava lamp or something.
Worf was holding down the fort at Wellspring Arms, and
Mirax was having a sale for new students and teachers at Things Reborn. That's both nice and a smart kind of bribery at the same time, well done.
Claire was restocking the shelves at Android's Dungeon,
Joan took care of the flowers at Covent Garden Flowers, and
Oz was all set up to celebrate Burmese Independence Day at the Holiday Grove. I guess we've got to find something else to celebrate now that Christmas is pretty much over.
Dani took her horse out around the barn at The Gig, since the trail's been covered up with snow.
Tully took his horse out as well, even though the horse didn't seem to be a fan of the cold weather, and
Captain Price stopped to ask Dani why she was going in circles, and she explained that it was that, or go down to the beach. Also,
Kurt tried to hide at The Gig during Outdoor Fitness class, but Mr. Bond found him and sent him back running. Dude, we didn't have to go that far, really.
Bod went to go check out the graveyard, and while that seems like a strange place to explore, he's certainly not the first person to hang out there, so I guess I can't say anything.
Castiel came out to check on his cat, and he and Bod talked about Bod's first impressions of the island, and how Castiel feels about all of us. I think humanity might be growing on him, whether he wants to admit it or not. That's what happens when you spend enough time here.
Chuck Bass and Leia went out on a date - and the squirrels are snickering instead of waving flags. I'm not sure what that means. Anyway, he took her out for a walk along the boardwalk to show her around and fill her in on any Fandom info she hadn't already gotten, and there was some kissing because that's the kind of thing that happens when you go on a date with Chuck, but it all sounds very nice and polite and I'm sure he was a good guide who shouldn't be mad at me because I talked to someone he didn't want me to talk to yesterday. I'm just saying.
Andy: Dude, he's telling you who you can talk to? Do you want me to talk to him?
Sam: No! I mean, it's okay, it's not as serious as it sounds.
Andy: Okay, but the offer's open. 'Cause that's just not kosher.
Sam: I'll, uh, keep that in mind.
Paige Matthews was at the Perk having some late-night caffeine, along with
Geoffrey, who was working on notes for the next production in town. That should be fun, as long as no one eats anything during the performances this time.
Mina was there as well, and she and Paige talked about the class Paige is teaching on magic, and the open-mindedness of the island's population. We are kind of awesome that way.
Millie was cheerfully punchy at the clinic, where she thankfully had a quiet day, and
Adrian was cheerfully tipsy at Caritas, where he flirted with
Kris, and got caught up with
Dimitri, who came in to make sure Adrian was still alive.
Damon came by too, and he and Adrian talked about how sketchy Tino looks, and
Summer had Adrian recommend a drink for her. Hopefully, it was a good one.
Andy: What drink would you recommend to people?
Sam: Um, a beer? I'm not exactly a liquor expert.
Andy: Yeah, we need to loosen you up some still.
Sam: I'm loose enough!
Andy: You just think that. Really.
Sam: Whatever. I'm fine, really. Do you have any more notes?
Andy: Nope. You?
Sam: Nope, so I guess that's it for us tonight. Hopefully, you guys will want to hear us again in the future, but until then, stay safe and don't break the new folks too badly!
