I continue to wish that they would stay away from Very Special Episodes and stick to stories about people eating their neighbors. It's just not a format that can handle Dealing with Issues very well. But still, I liked the episode. It was very moving. And I'm very easy, so any appearance of Hotch and Jack will make everything better for me.
Emily's storyline irritates me. I'm not angry about it or anything, but I have found myself fast-forwarding through the whole thing (with a brief stop to squee at Sergio the Cat ♥).
I don't begrudge her an exit arc, but why does it have to be something completely unrelated to the rest of the show? It's like... I buy the backstory they've given her as a plausible one for her character. I just don't care. It's a perfect illustration of why backstory should stay backstory. Like, would anyone be interested in multiple episodes of watching Hotch go to law school or be a prosecutor alone, without the rest of the team? I love Hotch, but I do not want to see that.
At least with the Foyet/Frank arcs, it was a part of their world. Instead, here we have the team solving cases on one hand, and then Emily goes off and interacts with these other characters that I could not possibly care less about. And I really, really, really like Emily but, for whatever reason, my like of Emily is not bleeding over onto these other characters. If it were a fic, I would have closed the tab long ago. It's sad, but I find myself wishing she would hurry up and leave so we can get back to profiling.
Yeah, pretty much that exactly. All of it, down to the squee at the kitty and 'could they please give us something that involves the rest of the cast and the show itself? Seriously?"
