FTEC, Monday, January 28 - Day Shift

Jan 28, 2008 08:33

The nurses were fighting. It wasn't every day they had a patient to take care of. A male patient. A hot male patient. So unsuprisingly, there were several arguments about who got to check on said patient, take his vitals, change his bandages, fluff his . . . pillows.

There's probably no nurse here. She's checking on Dean. Again.

True to his word, Sam was back at the clinic first thing in the morning. But he hadn't gone near Dean's room, except to peek in and make sure that his dad was still there. He wasn't sure if Dean would want to see him after what happened - honestly, he wasn't sure if his dad would either - and for the moment, it seemed safer to stay out here and wait.

Peter had listened to the radio podcast that morning and wasted no time getting to the clinic. It was okay that Sam wasn't with Dean. Sam was exactly who Peter was looking for.

"Sam, Jesus - are you okay?"

Sam turned at the sound of his name, and was surprised to see Peter.

"I--yeah, I'm okay," he said. The fact that his hand was bandaged and he looked like he hadn't slept at all might have said otherwise.

Peter was a Petrelli. That meant his first instinct was to reach out to touch Sam and check to see if he was really okay. So that was going to happen if Sam didn't move away. "Yeah, you look it. What the hell happened? Has anybody seen to you yet?"

"I got seen to last night," Sam said, not moving away from Peter's touch. "I'm not the one who got hurt though. It was Dean."

"This is just a fashion acessory, huh?" Peter asked, indicating the bandage on Sam's hand. He moved carefully as he touched it. "Want me to try healing it? And how is Dean doing?"

Sam pulled his hand away from Peter, closer to himself, and shook his head. "I just burned myself," he said. It was too minor of an injury to waste Peter's healing, especially when Dean got hurt so much worse in comparison. "I think Dean's still okay. I haven't gone in to check yet. But my dad would have called if he got worse."

Peter noticed Sam pull away and didn't press it. For now. "So what happened?"

"How much did you already hear?" Sam asked. It didn't seem like Peter had randomly found him at the clinic, after all.

"A demon attacked your house and possessed Alec and your dad," Peter said.

"I guess that's a good start," Sam said. "It wasn't just a demon though. It was the demon that killed my mom."

"Jesus." Peter reached out to touch Sam on the arm. "No wonder you look freaked."

Sam didn't move away this time when Peter touched him, and nodded. "We thought it might be coming, because of Grace. He came when I was six months old, and Grace turned six months old yesterday, so...and then last week, I started having nightmares about him coming and we just--we were expecting it as much as we could have."

Peter couldn't help but stare at him. "Well... not exactly," he said, as kindly as he could manage.

"Yeah, I guess we didn't really know what to expect in the end," Sam said miserably. "We thought we could keep anyone from getting hurt."
