I hate my advisor with a passion

but I have to admit this was pretty funny...especially since I am awake now to write this post, rather than sleeping so I can catch an 8am flight tomorrow morning. A transcript:

You, Other Student:

I am very sorry about the late notice, but I have been tied up at home with
Sue being sick, and then this afternoon with Leaf Peterson's thesis defense.

Anyway, through the SEI IRAD grant, Lockheed-Martin is providing some very
nice equipment grants. These consist of up to $25k for research equipment,
including computers, large displays, storage devices, etc. The grants get
split among the PI's graduate students, but those students must be in or
past their second year in the Ph.D. program.

What is needed: I need to submit, from each of you, a one-page thesis
research proposal. This proposal should explain the research problem, its
possible relevance to Lockheed-Martin's software and computing problems, and
why the research would be helped by the addition of some new equipment.

When: Unfortunately, I need to submit this by noon tomorrow, so I really
need your proposals by, say, 9am. I'll then add in the remaining info (eg,
my recommendation letters for each of you, other proof that you are in or
past your second year, etc) and then submit the whole thing.

What else: You will also need to prove that you are a US citizen. I think
Sharon can provide the right kind of letter for that, so you should see her
about this.

Again, sorry for the late notice, but this seems like a nice opportunity to
get some equipment...

You,

Hope you had a good APRIL FOOLS day, working on that proposal.

In case you didn't figure it out already, it was meant as a joke...
