false awakenings

Found this interesting link on false awakening dreams:
http://www.experiencefestival.com/a/Lucid_Dreaming/id/6333

It's kind of a hokey site and the article has a bizarre repetitive structure, but the truly wacky thing for me is that these dream phenomena can be classified in such detail -- and they can because so many people share the same supposedly private experiences with only slight variations. It gets you thinking about the global oneness of the world...

Anyways this was on my mind because I had these false awakenings two mornings in a row. Friday morning, a non-lucid, squeamish dream with multiple false awakenings, and Saturday morning a lucid dream that ended with a "trick" false awakening: I was in harm's way and in particular in danger of getting stuck in the dream if I didn't terminate it quickly, so I forced myself into wakening, and lo and behold realized that I was indeed lying on a hospital bed (flashbacks of UPMC) and being awakened by someone with some sort of alcohol-soaked cotton pad placed under the nose -- and almost immediately afterwards woke up for real.

As for the prophetic power of dreams: a few hours after this waking up in the operating room, I sort of broke my nose again... Don't worry, nothing visible, just a satisfying crunch.
