What’s made this the most surreal Christmas ever:
- No decorating. Didn’t feel like it.
- Bringing along Trey.
- Not exchaging gifts with my father's side of the family b/c no one wants him to feel uncomfortable b/c he's broke.
- My present from my father: “I’ll pay you back in a few weeks.”
- Visiting my aunt, who my mother hasn’t spoken to in almost 10 years.
- Meeting a two-year-old cousin for the first time.
- Kids actually got on my nerves.
- I actually called my grandfather on his preaching that I'm damned to hell.
- No football.
- The fact that it really doesn’t start until this week & I’ve only gotten a handful of presents.
- I can't wait until it's over.
Also, I FINALLY got to see The Life Aquatic yesterday. I’ve been waiting for this movie ever since I stepped out of the theater of The Royal Tenenbaums. Every one of Wes Anderson’s movies leave me with this intensely warm feeling. I sometimes even watch them as a means of self medication. Sadly, this movie didn’t do that for me. Maybe it was the absence of Luke Wilson. Maybe it was the overuse of the wonderfly quirky things I love about Wes Anderson movies. Maybe it was Owen Wilson’s shitty wavering accent. Maybe it was Cate Blanchett’s confusing character. It certainly wasn’t Bill Murray - he was as beautiful as ever (even though I would have enjoyed his character more if he would have been better developed). Chris Jay pointed out that there may have been too many of them. I can agree with that. Maybe it was just overkill.
I still liked it. And I laughed a lot.
Maybe the movie had some hefty competition, because before I left with Chris, Chris & Matt to see it, I had been lying in bed watching The Big Lebowski. That’s right. I just realized that I can watch DVDs from the comfort of my own cozy bed, via my new computer. Move over iPod, Netflix is my new boyfriend (I still love you!).
