The weather has been insane lately. We have had consistent rain for about a month now, and it is seriously fucking with my mountain biking. I figure it will dry up just in time for the temperature to be in the mid 90s, because spring hates me ( Read more... )

True Blood is frickin' sweet! The books are even better. I've been spreading their joy for months and months now. Go out and buy them!

How far have you gotten in the tv show? :)

We just finished episode 10 last night, where Bill was tribunaled for killing the bartender.

There are a gazillion of those books, aren't there? Does the series follow them closely, or are they just a loose framework for the show?

Oh, sweet! You're well into the season then!

There are 8, I think, at this point. The first season is Book 1, more or less. Some of the things in the show are different -- like Tara and Amy (Tara is a much different character and Amy never existed) -- but they're pretty dedicated to keeping the spirit of the book intact. I loved the series despite having read the first 4 books multiple times, and I appreciate the few changes they made. I especially <3 how they made Lafayette come alive. And Eric!

This season ends with a lead-in to Book 2, too, which makes me excited!

Have you read her Harper Connelly Series?
There are only 3 books in them and a 4th
coming out in october but I really liked
them. The main character was hit by lighting
can can hear dead bodies call to her to find
them.

It's weird. I reviewed the pilot episode for a local paper and *hated it* but it gets all this good buzz. I assume it improves?

I suppose it depends on what you hated about the first episode. Like all pilots, it just sets up the scenery and introduces characters. It didn't blow me away. The show really pulls you in past the first ep.

What Mikey said.

The first episode is setup. The way the series progresses is where things get awesome. I'm looking forward to them showing more of the vampires and their social structure next season!

P.S. Eric is sooooooo dreamy! :P

Amy is psycho and annoying... but her excellent nude scenes make up for it.

How is Tara different in the books?

In the books, Tara has the alcoholic family background, but she owns a clothing store called Tara's Togs. She's where Sookie goes when she needs classy outfits and stuff. :P

I can see why they changed that. It's expensive to build a reusable set like her store and set scenes there. Plus a potential pain to write a main character into scenes when it makes no sense for her to be there at the time. Employing her at the restaurant puts most of the cast in the same place. Easier to frame the beats of the story... and cheaper.
