Hello everyone! My name is Andrea, but you can feel free to refer to me however you like. I'm new to the community (literally just joined like, ten minutes ago), and I've read through the FAQs to get started. I guess it'll help if I go ahead and use the question guide thinger to get things started:
1) Are you new to FAM or an experienced FAM user?
I've never used FAM before. I'm interested in giving it a try as a main birth control method until I can go back on HBC, and was inspired to do so after a bit of concern was raised after unprotected nocturnal shenanigans. Also, I just like to know what my body is doing most of the time. 8D
2) Why do you want to use FAM? Or, if you are experienced, why have you chosen FAM?
I think it's a nice intimate way to know what all is going on, and I want to use it as a main birth control method.
3) Are you using FAM to avoid pregnancy, to conceive a child, or for another reason?
Avoid. Very much avoid.
4) What do you hope to gain from this community?
Support and guidance as I launch on my FAM adventure. :)
5) What do you hope to contribute to this community?
My own experience and help to others as they embark on their FAM journey. :)
So anyway, now that that's out of the way, I guess I have some questions that I was hoping you all could answer for me (that were in the FAQ). I know that book is highly suggested, but I'm sort of poor right now (hence the no wanting babies and the not being on HBC), and can't afford to buy a book. I plan on keeping track of everything in a spreadsheet, but just wanted to know, first, what I need regarding a thermometer, and where (this might seem silly, but I've never heard in detail how the basal temperature is taken :x) I take my temperature from. I always sort of assumed it was oral? But someone can correct me if I'm wrong. Also, in my chart, what are some things that I need to include? I was thinking of putting in temperature, mood, cervical mucous/discharge (though I'm not sure what about it -- am I supposed to essentially be touching it/playing with it to find out what it's doing?), other PMS symptoms that I have regularly (breast tenderness, cramping, cravings, etc.), and I guess cervical position? I'm not sure if that's even part of it, but that might take me some time, since I'm familiar with it, but I haven't messed with it enough to note any changes (I touched it once to locate it when I got my Diva Cup, and I can always feel it when I use my Diva Cup, and sometimes during sex).
And I think that's it. I'm looking forward to all the information I'll learn in here, and hope to speak with everyone frequently. Thanks in advance. :D
