Mary Shelley was born today in 1797, which somehow may have led to Toasted Marshmallow Day and Support Your Local Carny Day?
Doubtful, but anything's possible.
There are no holidays tomorrow that I'm aware of, but there is the final preseason Vikings game at the Cowboys!
Could it really be? George A. Romero returning to the Dead... again? Helsyeh! After finishing Land Of The Dead, which came out last year, and in addition to his upcoming Creepshow 3 and 3D theatrical release of the original Night Of The Living Dead, he's announced a 5th Dead film,
Diary Of The Dead, going independant once again!
The biggest drop in SAT scores in 31 years... oh, yes, we definately have an intelligent nation coming to the fore. *sigh* Wish I could remember what my #s were... it's been years, but I thought they were at least decent.
This is why I'm so worried about my child (already) when it comes to education! If the gov'mt doesn't start focusing upon getting our education "back in gear," or at least closer to international education systems, our nation is going to be left behind. What are our teachers teaching and students learning? The gov'mt makes passing one thing harder, then gives us the "No Child Left Behind" b.s. that's ended up closing some schools? And where's the education funding? Our fraggin' governor has no problem offering those whose families can already afford college to go free? That's great...ly disappointing and pointless. They can afford it, why give it to them for free?!? Education should be available to all, and funding available for those who can't afford it. It's almost as if they're trying to make higher education "back" into an elitist organization for the rich. And even though HS seems to be offering classes with college credits and other unusual things that weren't around in my day, from those I've talked to classes I took and things I learned are, for the most part, either severely changed or unavailable now. Plus the facts that our "public" school buses cost money, that in order for kids to even try out for a team they must already have the equipment, and even school lunches cost money now - plus offer what I consider snack foods and even have soda machines in the hallways of the schools (I admit, we had two soda machines, in a room that was locked most of the day).
Seems the best option for my child is private (non-religious) education or sending her to Japan for their year-round schooling (another thing we really need in the U.S., seriously! Many nations do this now!).
This (above) is why I really shouldn't read some news articles, I get into ranting and other issues... oy!
