Wellllll... this was a sort of mildly off installment, right? Like I haven't even written anything about Pavor Nocturnus last week because that was so incredibly awesome I've spent all my time watching it again or listening to the podcast (or watching Stargate... and also the studying thing is taking up *way* more of my time than I'd prefer).
About Fragments, though. I kinda didn't like something about it. I can't put my finger on exactly what it was, maybe the direction? or the writing?, because I know from previous experience that it really shouldn't be the actors, maybe a combination, but some lines just sounded... acted. They didn't quite ring true. And it annoyed me.
However, the tiling thing is really growing on me. In the first episodes it bugged me because I didn't know what to expect from it or where to look (artistic is not something I approve of, most of the time). But like I said, growing on me. I like what they did with close-ups of the monitors while still being able to follow the characters through the scene. So yeah. (And I watch the eps on 40-inch plasma, so the tiles being too small to be able to see the details? Not really an issue for me.)
But the rest was sort of weird. There was weird tension between Kate and, well, everyone, except Helen, but they didn't have any scenes anyway. Helen was all super-doctor mode and saving people, which was cool, but she wasn't really in it enough to establish her connection to Rachel. She fights hard for everyone, but there was a level of desperation that wasn't really backed by any other actions. And the Helen-as-therapist to just about everyone? I thought that was Will's job.
(Also, I would have liked to see Helen talk to Jack, because it would be cool to see Amanda use sign language... she said something in some interview about remembering just enough to get her into trouble, so that would have been cool.)
And the final scene ending on Helen looking worried? I get that she's the main character, and *I* certainly love seeing as much as possible of her... but really, in this particular episode it would have made more sense to end on just about anyone else (Henry).
But that said. A new episode of my new favourite show! Yaaaaay! *I have much love for this show*
