Anywayyy, maybe that "genteel" act is, like you said, a tirade that Allen acquired after OHMYGODLOL 14th's memories implant get. Or maybe, Mana was like "woops, my brother was a gentleman, and if Allen, at some point, will turn into 14th, so why the heck not teach him some manners?" But I would go for the first option, because, again like you said, chapter 165.
But we always saw that Mana was dressing sharp, I mean, if you are a full-time paggliacciiii, why dress up sharp, but then again, it's 19th century, maybe everyone was dressing v. cuul. Or maybe Cross and Mana was buddies in search of Innocence, and Mana knew that Allen had innocence, uh, because of the left arm. But why did he choose Allen, I mean, I guess it would be bad if he had to capture some cute little kid from HQ, but still, Allen said that they were travelling a lot, maybe in search of other kids with parasitic types, like for forming a personal army?
So this concludes that maybe only parasitic types would do the trick? Maybe he was just searching for a revenge tool, and that would be, gasp, Allen? I mean, if what I predicted were to be true, this would be a quite shock to our little baby boy, he saw Mana like a father, flashbacks of Mana's sayings, all those paternal love times, etc etc.
You know, I'm almost positive that Cross and Mana had some much earlier connection, even if it was only through Mana's brother.
I have some ideas about how all of it may have gone down, but one theory (that I thought of a long time ago, but which is growing more and more attractive to me) is this:
What if Cross was actually the one that happened upon Allen as a baby and sort of . . . orchestrated his childhood, so to speak? What if Cross ensured that Allen survived, even though he didn't really help him either, and slowly nudged him in Mana's direction, all the while working on the 14th to betray the Noah, and placed everyone in the right spot so that when the 14th finally caved he and Allen were both exactly where they needed to be at the right time? And who knows, maybe Allen attempting to resurrect Mana was just a happy (from Cross's perspective) accident. Because it is very, very convenient that Cross Marian showed up just when Allen sliced up his father figure.
It just seems like something that Cross would do.
Also, you know, a lot of the generals that had apprentices traveled a lot; I think that's just part of the deal with your training as an Exorcist.
But yes, I'm pretty sure only a parasitic-type Exorcist would work for what Cross has done. Because an equipment-type can just set down their weapon and walk away from it, so I doubt any weapon would really help someone once they started exhibiting Noah traits.
Edit: Haha, or, another idea I kind of love is: what if Allen is really Cross's bastard kid. That one could even go hand in hand with my previous idea!
