I feel really, really bad for not being around LJ more often. It's just a lot easier for me right now to talk on Twitter on my phone, as this laptop is seriously beginning to piss me off.
I survived Wales and got addicted to the Hills in the process (thankfully I've broken that habit now), we got lost trying for two hours trying to meet up with our other friend who was in Portmadog with her parents, and general hilarity ensued. I swear at one point we were in a British comedy film, what with all the wrong turns and unfortunate scenarios we managed to find ourselves in. We also ate over 70 packets of crisps in about 4 days, and managed to accumulate enough alcohol to open a small liquor shop. Fun times.
My trip to Edinburgh was actually out of this world. It is such an AMAZING place. I really reccomend for everyone to try and go there at least once, especially in August when the Fringe is on. I had the best time ever. I also felt really safe, which is unknown to me, cause if I go out in the cities near my house (or London) I generally feel like I'm going to get mugged at any second. In Edinburgh, you could walk from one end of the city to the other late at night and not feel threatened at all.
We saw a couple of shows while we were there, the first being "Obama Mia" which was a musical comedy set a few days before the 2008 election. It was HILARIOUS. The main plot was that Obama, in the final days before the election, had fallen into a "hope-induced coma" and his election campaigners have to find an Obama-lookalike to stand in for photoshoots etc. Obviously hilarity/chaos ensues, including a reporter (who is the ex-gf of one of the campaign aides) being kidnapped by Fox News and offered a job by their head honcho: Mr Fox (an actual stuffed fox). It was a lot of fun.
I also saw the History Boys that day, which is one of my favourite Alan Bennet plays of all time. I saw it with Dominic Cooper in before the movie was made, but this one was just as good, if not better, because the man that played Hector was just so inspiring and brilliant. The end never fails to make me cry.
We rounded the first evening off watching Reginald D Hunter, a comedian, who I love from shows like Have I Got News For You? He didn't disappoint. :)
The next day we saw a show called You're Not Like Other Girls, Chrissy, which was a one-woman play by one of my sister's old school friends. My sis told me about it, and I don't regret checking it out. She basically retold the story of her French grandmother who fell in love with an English soldier in WWII. It was meant to be funny, but it was sad as well.
Then we saw what I think was the highlight of the whole trip: Spring Awakening. I've been wanting to see this since it opened in London, but I didn't get tickets in time to see it. This was an amateur production, so a few of the songs were changed/missing, but it was SO SO GOOD. I was overwhelmed by how amazing it was. After seeing it, I've really fallen in love with it as a musical, because before I only had the soundtrack and what I imagined it to be like in my head.
So yes, even though we had an 8 hour bus journey there and back, (the journey there was a night bus, and I did not sleep AT ALL), Edinburgh was brilliant. I'm definitely going again next year.
So yes, there was all that, and then the big day of last Thursday arrived: A-level results AKA THE DAY OF DOOM.
I got A in Politics (TWO marks off an A* GORRAMIT) A B in History and a B in General Studies. I got a D in German, which really wasn't surprising, so I just find it amusing that I didn't get a U. I'm also chuffed about my Politics exam cause I was convinced the first paper was the worst one I'd ever sat, and I ended up getting 87/100 and 91/100, thus proving to my teacher that I'm not an idiot.
I didn't get into Liverpool though, I think cause I got a B in History and they wanted an A ( I was so close to one :( ) but I got into Loughborough :D I start in October, and the boy:girl ratio is 68:32 there, so...fun times? It's a very sporty uni, I know a few of our national teams train there and when the Olympics happens it'll be full of teams from loads of countries, so that'll be interesting.
Also, one last random thing: I saw Inception on Sunday night and it BLEW MY MIND. I was sceptical, cause when a movie gets so much hype I tend not to want to see it, but I'm so glad I did. It was very enjoyable and thought provoking and JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT OM NOM NOM <3
-Ahem- I'm going to leave now, after this beast of a post. I go on holiday for 2 weeks on Saturday so I probably won't be around until the middle of September, but I PROMISE I will be around more. I'm going to write loads on holiday to try and get my muse back, because I miss writing. :(
