It shouldn't have happened like that, there's no freakin' way!-
[She stops herself from screaming at him, barely.]

[He's a little too calm, really. A complete foil to Kyoko's anger.]

[Slam. She puts a fist to the wall, almost punching a hole through it.]
[She hasn't heard exactly what Aliea's plan was.]

[It almost reaches cold but not quite. Instead, it's a biting indifference, as if he's calling her stupid and won't stop no matter how many times she proves she isn't.]

[Another sharp breath. She can't scream again. She can't scream at him.]
Take that back, idiot. You know as well as I do I'm not looking to kill myself, ever.

You said you didn't plan any of it. So I was wondering what gave you the dumb idea that I was talking about your plan.

It shattered. I'm not supposed to be alive. I turned into that...
[She couldn't bring herself to finish the sentence.]
[She knew the animus brought people back, but how did they turn her back? It wasn't possible. It wasn't supposed to be possible.]

That gem is my soul, and it changed into a grief seed. You can't just change that back.

Someone can. Probably the animus. You die, they fix you. It's pretty standard procedure. With everything else they've pulled off before, I'm not surprised.

So it's like none of this happened. I'm just back to square one and on the road to have it happening again.
What a freaking great second chance.

Oh, it happened. [The evidence is right there on her chest.] But what happened, exactly?

Let me tell you a story, kid.
[She stares straight at him, her frustrated, exhausted gaze unwavering.]
Back in my world, there are a lot more girls like me. Magical girls, you know? Defenders of justice.
[There's a bitter laugh.]
Those witches are everywhere in our world and someone's got to take them out because they kill a lot of humans. So, some lucky girls get to have one wish granted, and they become like me. They become magical, their wish is granted, the witches are killed, and everyone is happy.
What a load of crap.
[It's dryly cynical.]
Humans wouldn't last long against the witches. They'd get torn up in a second and die. So when we get turned into magical girls-
[She pulls out her soul gem. It's still a beautiful, clear red.]
Our souls get ripped out and we get turned into friggin' zombies. No matter what happens to our body, as long as this thing is okay, so are we. We can be healed again.
[She puts it away.]But using magic corrupts it, and suddenly it ain't so pretty anymore. So we have to kill witches for ( ... )

So basically, using magic corrupts the gem and defeating witches clears it. How long does it take, usually? To go from clean to witch without anything to clear it?
Reply
[She pauses. She was going to answer "I don't know"- she herself had never let it get that far, of course.]
[But Sayaka had. Kyoko knew that's what happened to her more that ever now.]
...
Back home, two and a half weeks, if you're fighting witches and using magic every day. It doesn't happen as fast here.
