Under my nose Pt 3
After a great tour around Japan that ended with that live, the boys were back to Tokyo, ready for some rest and more hard work that would lead to success once again. The idea of surpassing themselves once more with the new album they were making was giving them the energy and the inspiration they needed for their new project. And so, like that, everything returned to their old rhythm. Well, almost everything...
After that fateful night, it was obvious that something was wrong between Shou and Hiroto. The atmosphere was so weird between them, one time they seemed so friendly and even more than that, helping each other and talking sweetly, and the other they were keeping their distance, like they couldn’t stand each other. It was a weird situation when on rehearsals, and the others could do nothing about it. Until finally, both of them understood that they were something more than friends, another night that they ended up at Shou’s apartment, and started dating. It was common sense that the two got together so it was never kept a secret. And that was the worst case scenario for them. The rest of the band started teasing them every day, Tora with sneaky, pervy jokes, and Nao giggling or laughing every time he caught the couple red handed, making out in the rehearsal room. Only Saga was distinctive, giving them faint smiles when Shou and Hiroto were around. He never asked weird questions like Tora did and he was always respecting their private moments, unlike Nao, who kept interrupting them. And it seemed strange, even for them, Saga being so quiet about a thing like that, but they appreciated it, thinking that maybe he understood their feelings. And it was half true. Saga knew the feeling of being in love, but he learned it the bad way.
Saga was a little surprised with the new situation. Although he wanted to hope and believe that Shou and Hiroto would remain just friends, deep inside he knew what was going to happen. Saga’s fear became everyday reality. He had to stand the lovey-dovey display at rehearsals, walk outs, movie nights, even in lives. He tried not to look upset in front of them but no matter how many smiles or funny faces he was displaying, this was only hurting him more, facing the ugly truth that he was never going to be with the one he wanted to. He could do nothing, nor could he talk to Shou about his feelings anymore. The only way to get out of this was to lock his heart away again, and he was waiting for the day he would succeed in that, hopefully. But except those sad feelings, after that live Saga didn’t change at all. He kept being his well known, abstract self, sometimes moody, and other times an outgoing teaser.
Tora remained the same too. He kept random dating as he usually did, changing lovers with the pace he was changing clothes every day. He was still calm and cool, making fun of the lovebirds of the band, or worrying when the bassist was closed to himself for his own reasons. He kept his promise to Saga and indeed nothing did change between them. They were still drinking together at long nights, cursing how unfair and cruel the world was under their drunken state, or watching splatter movies on DVD, making fun of the gore scenes while eating the delicious food they ordered from somewhere or they cooked themselves. They were still hanging out writing songs and consulting each other if that tone was ok on that part or it should be a tone higher. They still had warm smiles when that night popped into their minds, but it was past. They were friends, maybe friends who shared a dirty little secret, but still, friends. They didn’t get to a situation like that after that time and they were happy that things were sorted out with no problems.
But that night, two weeks after the live, something was different.
Tora could feel it in the air he was breathing. The smell of Saga’s perfume was invading his nostrils, making him dizzy. The way the slender man was sitting on the couch, his head titled to the side, locks of brown hair shading his pale face as he was watching the movie they rented. The way Saga’s lips touched the glass, caressing it gently, when he was drinking his whiskey. His eyes piercing with a dark, strange, shine every time he was looking back at the dark-haired guitarist, and that soft, low voice, when Saga was calling his name… All of these were raising Tora’s hair at the back of his neck, sending that great shiver in his stomach and even lower. Tora was scared of his own thoughts but he couldn’t deny it. The five of them were watching a movie at his house and the only thing he wanted was to stay alone with Saga. With every move the bassist was doing that night and with every glance, it was like he was calling inwardly for him. Why was Saga staring at him like that? Why was he smiling playfully, licking the last taste of whisky on his lips? Was all of that just his imagination? Tora didn’t know. The only thing he knew was that Saga awakened the desire and pleasure he once shared with him, in a hotel room. A pleasure that no one offered to him after that night, nor before. A pleasure he was still longing for...
After one more hour, the movie’s end that Tora had been wishing so much for finally came. He couldn’t care less about how clever the idea of the movie was or how bad that skinny blond actress was. He was in confusion, dirty thoughts along with guilt dancing in his mind, mixing together and frustrating him even more. He was a tired sac of meat till the moment everyone stood up from the couch. Life came suddenly to his body, as he led his bandmates to the door. Finally he could stay alone and calm down. He mentally counted the faces as he was giving goodnights. One, Shou walked out, waving and reminding about their meeting the next day. Two, Hiroto followed, holding his boyfriend’s hand. Three, a sleepy Nao, who almost tripped on his shoes. And the door closed. Where was the forth one? Tora turned surprised to find Saga on the living room with no coat on, placing used plates and glasses on a big saucer. Tora sighed in defeat.
“Saga what are you doing?”
“What you see!” the other man chuckled. “I’ll leave after I help you cleaning up… My, we made such a mess today…”
Tora stayed still, watching as Saga took anything that needed cleaning and moved to the kitchen. He was smiling as he placed everything under the faucet, his body bending over it in a tempting pose, driving the taller man crazy.
“It’s ok! I’ll wash them now!” Tora felt an invisible hand holding him back, but he still went into the kitchen, raising the sleeves of his shirt. He turned the faucet on, letting the running water break the weird silence between them. Saga was confused. Tora was standing in front of the open faucet looking back at him, as if waiting for something. Saga raised an eyebrow and blinked a few times, displaying a questioning expression.
“Ummm…” he started, “What are you waiting for?” He smiled shyly.
“You…” Tora blurted out. “I mean the sponge!” He added quickly, sure that all the heat he was feeling was not due the warm room. Oh, great Tora, you screwed up! He facepalmed himself mentally.
On the other hand, Saga seemed even more confused.
“…The… sponge?” He raised a brow, trying to understand the words Tora just said. The other man burst laughing.
“Yeah… The one you are holding silly!” He chuckled. “Give it to me!”
“Oh!” Saga laughed dumbly. “I-I forgot that!”
Smiling awkwardly, he gave Tora the sponge, who grabbed it before Saga could leave it. Their fingers touched accidentally, but the way they remained like that, their tips caressing softly each other, was not accidental at all. Tora didn’t understand when he pulled the bassist straight on his feet, or when he pinned him on the wall. His breath was shaky and heavy, his knees were numb. His body was forced on Saga’s, forming a cage with no exit for the younger man. He raised his eyes slowly, looking straight at Saga. A hue of red was staining his cheek and Tora was sure his own cheek had the same color at that moment. Saga’s lips were trembling as he moved closer, the words were losing their sound before they left his lips. His eyes were hiding need. Yeah, need. Saga was as frustrated as Tora was, they both needed touch, they were both missing those kisses they shared together. Tora’s gaze softened along with the force he used against Saga’s thin body.
“You know this is wrong, right?” The dark-haired man spoke softly, moving closer. A great fight was occurring inside his mind, between his logic and his desire for the other man.
“I know…” Saga whispered, smiling bitterly. How could he not know? Everything was screaming that it was wrong, but there was a tiny, weak voice inside him, pushing him to do it. He didn’t know what exactly the voice was saying, but he decided to listen to it. “Just one more time…” He exhaled, almost pleadingly on Tora’s lips. He leaned hesitantly closer decreasing their distance almost to zero, afraid that Tora would back down and leave. But the taller man didn’t move. He welcomed Saga’s lips on a small kiss which quickly became deep and hungry. Both of them knew it was wrong, something that was betrayed by their guilty moves. Using each other to forget their stress or pain, to feel temporary pleasure, yeah, they knew it was a mistake. But they chose to ignore it as Tora’s hand searched blindly for the faucet to turn it off and then with slow, clumsy yet united steps they walked without parting, deeper to the apartment, to Tora’s bedroom.

“Oh when are you going to spit it out!” Shou’s accusing finger was pointed straight at Tora, who didn’t even flinch. Instead, he kept ignoring the singer and his lover, who had been interrogating him since they entered the rehearsal room.
“Admit it already!” Hiroto added, trying to pressure the guitarist more, but the latter merely laughed nervously, making them pout even more.
“Come on~” Both Shou and Hiroto were looking back at him with puppy eyes.
“Well…” Tora rested his hand behind his neck, spreading his body on the couch more, almost lying on it. “I always have loads of dates! Unlike someone else inside here, who got hooked up only after many beers and moody music~” He smirked.
“Oh shut up!” Shou protested, fighting a blush while glaring back at his boyfriend, who was ready to laugh hard. After Hiroto calmed down, Shou continued with a big breath. “I am not talking about your useless one night stands you idiot! Like I care! But look at you lately! You go straight at home often, you don’t flirt around like you used to, you don’t even look at other people! Tora it’s obvious, you are seriously dating someone!”
“Uhh…” Tora took a thoughtful expression, like he was ready to admit something. Finally, the couple sighed, ready to absorb any information given about Tora’s mysterious lover. But the guitarist just shrugged his shoulders. “No, sorry. I am not with someone…” An evil smile was displayed on his face.
“I hate you. Really.” Shou crossed his hands on his lap and banged his back on the couch. Tora’s even louder laughter was getting on his nerves, but just in time, Hiroto embraced him and kissed him to calm the man down.
“Tora,” Hiroto tried his own luck with the subject. “We have a long rehearsal today… Instead of us troubling you for the rest of the day, why don’t you make it easier for yourself and speak?” Hiroto smiled, satisfied with the negotiation terms he used. Tora sighed in desperation; this was starting to get disturbing.
“Guys,” He said boldly, “I am not in a relationship and that’s the plain truth!”
“Like we’ll ever believe you!” Shou spat out in mischief.
“Who made Shou pout again… tiger?”
A new voice sounded as Nao entered the room, alongside Saga. Both of them greeted the rest with a smile.
“Oh, why must it always be my fault when he’s grumpy!? I didn’t say anything dirty, yet, plus they are torturing me!”
“So, are the roles reversed?” Nao laughed.
“Yes they are!” Shou stated with a pseudo-angry voice. “I bet my head, that man over there who is supposed to be my best friend is seeing someone seriously and does not admit it!”
“No, I am not! How many times do I have to tell you? I can’t believe this today…” Tora covered his head between his arms.
“You won’t deceive me this time, Amano Shinji!” The mention of Tora’s real name showed that Shou was dead serious. “Nao!” He then turned at the drummer, “Wouldn’t you be angry if Saga was hiding from you something like that?”
“Well, yeah, I would…” Nao admitted after a small pause. “But he wouldn’t do that… Right, Sagacchi?” Nao’s eyes pierced Saga’s face as he asked.
“O-Of course not, Nao! How silly you are!” Saga chuckled, placing his bass down coolly.
“You see?” Shou’s eyes burned with fire as he turned to Tora again. “Some friend you are!” He spat with petty.
“Just go hook up with your boyfriend and leave me alone, will you?” Tora shouted in desperation. Loud laughs sounded in the room, laughs from all of them, even from Tora. Saga’s statement only made Shou more stubborn about finding out Tora’s secret, but the guitarist knew that Saga was lying too. Well, not exactly lying…
After that night at Tora’s house, everything changed for those two. They willingly became the pawns in a strange game, gaining pleasure and profits from it and obeying to only two conditions. First, no matter the place or the time, they were helping each other feel better and second, they were keeping emotional distance between them, so that their friendship would stay intact. And that game indeed worked out perfectly those three months that had passed. There were many occasions were Saga was depressed or Tora was overstressed from work, and even more times where both of them were just horny. And that game was helping them out at every situation. Saga was shocked when he realized that it was over a month and he wasn’t so sad about Shou’s and Hiroto’s relationship. He started to feel somehow distant to the situation, his feelings for the singer slowly calming down. The love he once had for him now turning to a deep friendship and only that. And he was happy about it.
So yes, Tora and Saga were seeing each other, but they were not in a relationship, no. Saga had too much pain with the situation with Shou to think about that and Tora would rather kill himself than enter a serious relationship as Shou was accusing him to have. Plus, there were no feelings that would lead in one, friendship and benefits were not qualified. So they kept enjoying the great sex while being there for each other, as good friends should do. That was all they needed, there was no place for love and affection in their hearts. Right…
After a rehearsal full of dirty jokes from Tora and ironies from Shou, the boys were free to relax. At last Shou forgot about the guitarist when Hiroto proposed for all of them to go and drink at a new place in town. They were so excited, Shou, Hiroto and Nao, they had heard really good rumors about it and they couldn’t wait to go and visit it. They were so preoccupied by their talk, so they moved ahead, leaving the other two still packing in the rehearsal room. And that was a good chance for Saga to talk to Tora. He lost no time as he got closer to him, hugging him from behind.
“I missed you…” He purred in Tora’s ear, reminding the dark-haired man how he’d missed the other too.
“Hmm, only two days passed…” Tora whispered teasingly as he placed a small kiss on Saga’s lips. The door was closed so he was feeling more comfortable. “You miss me too easily, Sagacchi…”
“I don’t care…” Saga answered back with a husky voice. “I want to see you tonight…” He smirked as he kissed Tora back passionately, greedy. Tora laughed.
”You know…” He started, his hand running over Saga’s ass, “Maybe I want to see you too…” He grinned as he squeezed it slightly. ”But how about we do something else first? How about we go and eat somewhere, just you and me?” His soft smile disappeared instantly when Saga gave him an awkward one and pulled back nervously. He tried to read behind the bassist’s actions, but there was no need as the latter explained himself soon.
“Tora… This sounds like… dating…. “ He scratched his neck with such strength that red marks started appearing. “That would give them a reason to make even more fun of you, right?” He let a shaky, pretending laugh, sounding almost like a scream to Tora’s ears. In return Tora started laughing too at what he himself had just said.
“Oh, you are right!” He said between gasps, trying to get some air. “That was so stupid! Like we would ever date!” Yeah it was. How could he even think of asking Saga something like that? It was foolishness, and it was a good thing that Saga took it as a joke… Yet, why was he feeling out of air? Why was he forcing the laugh in his mouth? Why was he being dominated by anger after his own mistake?
Both of them kept laughing, with no reason anymore. They kept doing it to fill the empty space they were feeling, to cover the uncomfortable atmosphere between them. And they never expected for this to happen, but when Nao’s voice echoed out of the room, both of them felt relieved.
“Guys? Are you lost or what?”
“I-I was packing my bass and we were talking about the main melody again… I think I know what I’ll do for that tricky part now…” Saga said in rush as he hurried out of the room, followed by Tora.
“Oh… OK…” Nao answered thoughtfully. “What about you two then? Will you come with us to that new bar in town?”
“Oh…” Saga spoke first, looking so confused. “I have to finish that melody before I forget the ideas I have, sorry guys…” He said goodnight to everyone, avoiding Tora’s sight, and started to walk on his way for his car.
Nao let his eyes travel on Saga’s stress looking figure before he focused back on Tora again. “And you?”
“… I think I’ll come for a while…” He said blankly, trying to seem cool as he walked along with the others. He was ready to explode and scream. And what was infuriating him more was the fact that he didn’t know the reason he was like that. What was that strange, bitter feeling he had in his tongue, giving him that disgusting taste? What was that pain he felt inside him? What the hell was going on? He only needed sometime to forget that embarrassing moment, and going out with the others would surely help. He could meet Saga later, when he would feel better.
“Hey, Tora, are you alright?” Shou leaned closer to the taller man, visibly worrying about his friend.
“Just tired…” Tora gave him a faint smile. “I need a drink…”
Shou didn’t ask for more, he knew that the best way to learn what was wrong with Tora was to wait for the other man to speak on his own. He just wished that it was not something serious. But Shou was not the only one worried. Nao stayed back, staring at the taller man and then turning to look at Saga’s back, as the bassist was now reaching the car. An indescribable expression was formed on his face, as he sighed and started walking again.
