A new job

"The people who live 2 houses away are putting in a new sidewalk. Today they poured the cement, and you were busy watching. I came out to find you had brought the footstool outside and were sitting there, watching the cement intently. You told me that someone had asked you to make sure that no one walked on it. I thought for sure someone was just joking with you, but then sure enough Mrs. Fortune came out of her house and thanked you and said she'd pay you tomorrow. So, you've had your first job! Except you solemnly explained to me tonight that when she pays you, you will give her some money to pay her for asking you to do it..."
