Oh...my...God.
That hurt. So good. But it really hurt.
The West Wing: S4 Finale
Okay, even though I was semi-spoiled for the Zoey kidnapping story I was so not prepared for all the repurcussions of the crisis. Bartlet got it right in S1. This is the nightmare scenario. My stomach was a knot. And Massive Attacks 'Angel' is just the best creepy suspenseful music ever. Wow. It doesn't help that I have a girl crush on Elizabeth Moss either. God, Zoey better be found alive. It's too painful already.
Jed!! Abbey!! Charlie!!!! These are characters I really don't want to see in pain. Damn you, West Wing.
My biggest sob has to go to Toby. TOBY!!!! How many times did Toby make me cry in the last two episodes? How about...every scene he was in. Is Richard Schiff a certified genius of an actor or what? Andy! You devil woman, how could you reject Toby's proposal?! I really thought those two would be engaged by the end of this season. I'm crushed. Toby, I will live in the dream house and marry you and have your babies. I don't care if you're sad! Your sadness is beautiful. Oh God, how could Andy say no???!!
I really don't know which moment choked me up the most. I think it was Toby having to tell his friends the twins had been born in the middle of Zoey's kidnapping crisis. Josh's muted hug and mazel tov. CJ's smiling through tears reaction. These actors kill me. Just when I thought that Toby couldn't kill me anymore I get his talk with Leo followed by the "Babies come with hats" monologue. I'm going to have to watch this episode again because all I can remember right now are the sniffles these moments induced. Toby Zeigler is definitely joining the halls of fame for 'Fictional characters who have broken me emotionally'. Toby is my big damn hero.
I'm trying to decide if WW4 is better than WW2. I think they are equally good in terms of characterisation and dramatic plotlines, but WW4 might be my favourite just for all the Toby brilliance. Charlie has also been incredibly awesome this season. I had my biggest Awwwwww moment in the episode where shots were fired at the White House and Charlie came charging and stumbling into the Presidents office to see he was okay. Awww Charlie! I thought Sam's last scene with Toby was beautiful too, though I was a little miffed that they left so much unclear about his departure. So I assume he didn't win Orange County then? So what is Sam doing now? Toby said he was going to get Sam promoted. What happened to that?! *is frustrated* Oh well, it was better than Mandy inexplicably disappearing.
I think I can cope without Sam as long as Toby, CJ, Josh, Leo, Donna, Charlie and Jed remain till the end. I really do like Will. He is such a dork. He's an even bigger dork than Sam. So Will can stay. I even like Amy now (shock! horror!). I didn't like her paired up with Josh but I think Abbey/Amy make a great team. I'm even laughing at her deadpan humour, which I fell flat for me before. And did Amy really ask Donna if she was in love with Josh? That moment got lost in the drama. I'd have liked to hear the answer!!
*Guh* I really need to watch those Toby scenes again. When I've recovered...
Zoey Bartlet's not dead, right? They'll find her alive, yes?
And now John Goodman's the President. That's just weird. What'll Roseanne say?
