232 - Is there a situation where it's appropriate to be unkind?

May 29, 2008 23:56

Sure. I do it all the time. It's called living.

Okay, that sounded bad. It's just that with the way my life goes, I have to be unkind. I can't be nice. Nice gets you nowhere. So listen up all of you potentials-turned-Slayers, because the general is talking and giving out one of her infamous speeches yet again.

Nice gets you dead.

We're in a war, all the time. Everywhere we look, every place we go, there's something to kill, someone to fight. It's our job, our duty, to stand up for the people who can't stand up for themselves and do something about it. We are an army. An amazing, powerful army of strong women who can do anything, but guess what, guys?

An army needs a leader. And that leader is me.

You listen to me, you stay alive. You ignore my words, you die. Period. End of story. We defeated The First, sure, but not forever. The baddies around here come and go, but evil will last forever. It's the way of the world.

Be nice on your own time to the little old lady who needs help crossing the street. But at times like wars, you don't have time to be nice to your friends. No one. No one gets in your way, and yes, it's a pretty lonely road when it's like that. Sometimes, it even gets you kicked out of your own home.

I'm not nice, despite what Faith or others might say about me. At least when it comes to something as important as this. Lives at stake, people dying, and all depending on me? It means I can't be nice, I don't get that luxury. And neither do you.

So, there you go. End of Buffy's-long-winded-speech. You can all go home, roll your eyes about what I just said, and thank me tomorrow when I'm the bitch that saves your life.
