225 - "Do not the most moving moments of our lives find us without words?"

I guess that's true. I mean, no, it's true. There have been plenty of times when shared looks between people were better. Or there was this one time where Willow linked up Xander, me, and her mentally somehow using her magic and we were able to think up a plan to show the then-potential-Slayers that those uber-vamps could be killed, just the same ( Read more... )

I apologize for taking the lighthearted road in commenting but... really, all of Sunnydale silent? I can't imagine it.

Yup. You should have seen Giles trying to coordinate everything using home-made drawings and an overhead projector.

He made my boobs too small!

Ahh, classic Watcher behaviour. Organise and coordinate.

Well, er...

With an overhead projector?

And he drew lots of blood everywhere. I think there was something wrong with him at the time, maybe.

Let it never be said that Watchers cannot change with the times-- cave paintings to etchings to flip charts to projectors. I'm sure Mr. Wells is using presentations from his laptop now.

A closet artist, perhaps?

I really had a very limited supply of crayons.

Right. That was the reason, Giles. *smirks*

I miss you.

I had very little use for coloured pencils, at the time. It was a school, after all. A marking pen was the only actual colour that came to hand.

I am told that there is something on this laptop that it would make it produce pictures of some kind, but I have enough difficulty in making comments. Apparently the machine has become somewhat out-dated already. It's a pity. I've grown accustomed to XP and google does save time, I must admit.

I suppose that a degree of "geekiness" will be a requirement in the next generation of Watchers, but even the newest recruits seem to mistrust Vista. I am not really confident of my own ability to cope with it, but mercifully I do not have to train them in computer skills.

I do find that I miss field work, but I suppose that is a young man's game. We certainly had some unique experiences.

(In other words I do, in fact, miss you too.)

Uh. I really wish Willow was here to tell me everything you just said. I mean, I can do a google search, and that's about it. Robin always said I sucked at my job as a counselor. Well, and the using of the computers part, too.

Field work? You could still do field work, I'd bet. I'm just saying.

Then maybe we should, oh, I don't know, make it a point to try and see each other? Although that was really sweet of you to say, Giles, even if its only in strikeout.

Well, using a computer has never been an obligitory part of a Slayer's duties. The fact is that literacy was unusual until relatively recently.

Watchers also tended to have limited careers - and lifespans, if they tried to remain in active service. It is always tempting to believe oneself to be as young as one ever was, but history has few accounts of, of elderly action heros - of course, in my own case I am barely middle-aged, but...

In any case, even though it seems unlikely that I will ever be active in the fieldwork sense, we should most certainly make time to keep in touch.

(He suddenly grins)

You do realise that there is absolutely no precendant? We are the first Slayer and Watcher ever to decide such a thing, the first even to have the choice. (A thought suddenly wipes the smile from his face.) There are also matters that we really should discuss, later...

Matters? Wait, good matters or bad matters?

I'm thinking bad matters since you won't tell me them right now...
