It was the call that Annie had been told to expect, so when she was told about Lt. Cowan, she picked up, unsure of what to expect.

"Don't get too excited," Clay said, even though it was obvious he was. Hearing Annie's voice brought him more comfort than he anticipated.

The urge to jump up and hug her entire phone to her chest was overwhelming. She settled for looking down at her desk and smiling. Taking a deep breath, she shook her head and gave a small laugh.

"Lieutenant. It's good to hear your voice."

The formality was really only in the statement. The relief in his voice was obvious, "I should be back there in about a week."

The giddiness in her own tone was getting hard to hide, though she was still being very quiet. She was still looking down at her desk, afraid if anyone saw her expression, it'd be a dead giveaway. So much for not getting excited.

A week was still a long way off and meant that he'd have been gone for a month, but hearing his voice, hearing the relief and happiness in his voice? Made all the difference to her.

"I should be fine. Three days are going to be spent on the West Coast...they want to make it seem like I live out there."

Safety measure, just in case someone decides to tail him. Home is California.

Annie sighed as she looked around the thinning office. She had no idea what a call from Paraguay would cost, but she didn't want to press her luck.

"I'll see you soon?" It was meant to be a statement - it came out a question.
