The order came from Watts himself. Webb's alter-ego, arms dealer Clayton Williams was needed again. To be honest when Webb saw his name and Paraguay in the same sentence he thought about burning the orders and tendering his resignation on the spot. If he thought he was on edge during that mission to Russia with Annie, it was nothing compared to how he'd feel once he arrived in Ciudad Del Este.
The only thing that gave him any measure of comfort was that Victor was going to be his partner for this. Webb liked working with Victor, not only because he was an excellent agent, but because he was also a Marine. Marines don't leave men behind as evidenced by their last mission together. Victor found Webb in the middle of that disgusting basement, dragged him through the countryside and into the closest hospital. Webb only hoped that if something happened again, Victor would get him out of there. This time, if he died, not only would his mother be upset so would Annie.
Annie, how was she going to take this? Not well in his estimation. Webb decided to tell her after dinner if he could muster up the courage to tell her tonight. He did have three days before he was going to have to leave. That should be enough time to tell Annie and tinker with his will, just in case.
By the time Annie got to his condo, he'd already had two glasses of scotch and finished working on dinner. It was going to be a long night.
