Alright, Lymle. Let's see how many of these we can put up around the village!

[Faize in a surprising rule-breaking turn, is wandering around with pens, carving tools, and a drawing of a symbol to use for reference. This symbol, which Lymle perfected, is the lightning symbol that he wants to use as a makeshift source for electricity. He is ( Read more... )

[Action] Been wanting an excuse for Celes to meet him! preciousgeneral September 10 2009, 06:53:12 UTC
[Celes is bored and wandering around the village and finds her interested piqued at seeing symbols being carved. She's not looking like she's going to do anything horrible to him, more curious than anything else really.] What are those for?

[Action] Aww, yay! Sorry he hasn't been out so much lately. faizedout September 10 2009, 06:59:24 UTC
[When she approaches, he stops to smile at her politely.] It's a lightning symbol. I intend to use it in my attempts to develop technology here.

[She smiles in return] Oh? Anything in particular you are trying to develop?

There are a few comforts of home that I would like access to once more, but at the moment I would at least like to lay the groundwork in place for basic circuits and such. Luceti leaves us with so little in the way of technology, so attempting to reach higher levels will require working from the ground up.

[She nods at that.] I can understand that. I miss some of the technology from where I grew up, but this is about the level of some of the towns in my world.

The main difference was if steam or magitek existed really.

[Action] Who is it? faizedout September 10 2009, 07:49:53 UTC
The place I grew up in is very different from this place. Technology is something I've relied on all my life, so it has been quite an adjustment living here.

What is magitek?

[Action] Balir from Tales of Eternia, pretty minor character though preciousgeneral September 10 2009, 07:55:45 UTC
I can't even imagine something more advanced than Vector, but that could be a difference in our worlds.

But to answer your question, magitek is what we called devices powered from magical power drained from espers which are creatures of magic in my world.

It was a cruel thing, but I admit to wondering if the basic premise might work here if a less harmful way could be found.

[Action] Oh man, it's been so long since I've played that game. faizedout September 10 2009, 08:03:55 UTC
The things that can be done with advanced technology may very well seem surreal. There are only a few people I've met here who are used to technology as advanced or nearly as advanced as what I'm used to, but the Malnosso are keeping it from us for a reason.

[He pauses to think this over for a moment.] While I have not intentionally attempted to make contact with the spirits of this place, they could very well be used to power technology. It would still leave them as slaves to whatever technology we managed to create, unfortunately.

[Action] At least you have, that's a bonus! preciousgeneral September 10 2009, 08:16:24 UTC
I haven't made contact with the spirits yet either. I wonder if a spirit would be different than draining the energy from a living creature? The espers were much like us. They would tire quickly from being drained like that.

[Action] That's true! Tales of Eternia is woefully underappreciated. faizedout September 10 2009, 09:30:44 UTC
I think it really depends on the concentration of the magic of the spirit as opposed to the magical creature it would otherwise be taken from. But... if these espers were living, sentient beings, I think it's somewhat cruel to try and steal energy from them for our own gain.

[Action] It is :( preciousgeneral September 10 2009, 09:42:39 UTC
I agree, it is very cruel. Still, we learn from our errors and if the errors of my world could aid this world, then I'm happy to explain as much as I can.

[Action] It's probably one of my favorite Tales games. faizedout September 10 2009, 22:56:28 UTC
Do you know about how the magic energy was drawn from them?

[Action] I like it and Abyss best :) preciousgeneral September 11 2009, 06:57:41 UTC
They made use of tubes that drained the energy. The esper was placed inside it and it would take their energy and store it to power a device or to be given to a person so that person could use magic.

That may be difficult to replicate, but the ability to drain magic may not be. I can still do that here.

I'd like to know more about how that works. I don't know if we can use something like that here, since the spirits seem to be freer than we are. Even if we are able to get by simply using symbology, I'd like to learn more about it.

You can drain it on your own?

If you'd like, I can demonstrate my ability to absorb magic. I have my sword, that is all I need.

I'd merely need you to use some magic.
