Transmission 007 - For the benefit of Mr. Faize, there will be a... wait.

Apr 17, 2009 05:04

Given recent events, it has occurred to me that many citizens here may have experienced a sort of "culture shock" upon their arrival here. Indeed, the technology allowed in this village can be somewhat old-fashioned or even primitive to some. While current circumstances cannot allow for great technological development in Luceti, I do not believe ( Read more... )

What sort of 'parts' do you mean?

It really depends. I suspect the most likely request will be new parts for some of the robots we have here. I have seen at least two designed to look and behave human, and there are likely others. One was recently attacked. Though I was able to repair her, in the future I may need to replace their plating. If you would like, I can attempt to draw up a sketch for what it might look like.

That... sounds plausible. Though I don't even know what a robot is.

Very well. I will see what I can do.

You've never seen such a thing before? The best way to describe them would be living machines - they consist mostly of mechanical parts, though some may incorporate parts of natural creatures. A friend of mine was originally alive, but was able to transfer his brain into a robotic body after an unfortunate incident claimed his true body. I have not pried much into the nature of the robots I have met here, but the most I would ask from you is casing to repair and protect their inner workings.

Living machines? That... that sounds amazing. We have simple machinery in my world, but nothing that could even begin to resemble living beings. You say there are machines like that here?

It is quite fascinating. Civilizations develop in such vastly different ways, and I am often intrigued by how they do so. I have met with two here and repaired one. With such a variety of people brought to Luceti, I would not be surprised if there were others I have not yet run into. I am certain of it.

Incredible...

...if... is it possible that... by chance, if you happen to work on any machinery in your shop...

...could I watch?

Really!? I'm relieved!

If I can help in any way, even if it isn't smithing, don't hesitate to ask.

It is no trouble, really. Teamwork is of great importance here, and I would be glad to share what knowledge I can with you.

Thank you, Edward. I will remember that!

Do you think that someone from a more primitive world could learn that sort of skill?

Yes. I have met symbologists from relatively rustic environments that have done things that symbologists in my own world had not thought possible. I am certain that you can do anything you put your mind to.

Then... maybe I'll try to learn a little. If you're willing to teach me, that is.

I would be glad to. You have offered your help to me - the least I can do in return is offer you my own.

It should prove to be interesting, that much is for sure.
