Dydd Dewi Sant

Or Saint David's Day if you prefere, was yesterday and I wore my daffodil with pride. I got asked several times what it was for, most thought I was supporting the Marie Curie cancer charity as they have a daffodil as their emblem. LOL I would have looked a bit funny wearing a leek which is the other (masculine) symbol of Wales.

I think that we are not very supportive of our saints in this country, alot is made of Saint Patrick in Ireland and recently there have been moves to try and make it more popular in this country but in this part of England we don't have too many Irish people only the tinkers and travellers.

The patron saint of England is St George, who is supposed to have slayed the dragon. His feast day is April 23rd but there never is any mention of it in the papers or on tv. I have never seen anyone wearing a rose either.

Scotland has it's own patron saint, St Andrew, his day is the 30th of november, I imagine that the Scots at least wear a thistle on that day.

I always wear my daffodil because most of me is Welsh, I wear a rose on St Georges day because a bit of me is English. I think it's a shame that more people in England don't salute their heritage in this small way.
