i've yet to venture outside in my arctic parka but i honestly can't wait!!!! we had a lecture last night about our project and it's so unbelievably interesting. and i feel so worthwhile :) everyone on my team seems nice, i am by far the youngest here lol! we had a brief introduction session last night before the lecture started and well, compared to these people i've barely done anything with my life lol! but then i am only 19 so i figure i've got lots of time to do stuff! saying that though my A level geography has benefited me, collecting the data sounds suspiciously like geography coursework fieldwork lol and data input sheets are eerily similar to what i've used before. thankfully though we are NOT looking at plant succession (even though the snow data we'll be collecting is relevant to that) and er, i don't have to analyse the results. so we get the easy job!

the food here is seriously nice as well. all home cooked and er, seriously calorific. this morning for breakfast i had an egg, a pancake and bacon... oh and toast and syrup of course! we've been told to eat heartily though because apparently in the field we'll burn a lot of calories. i'm taking the view though that i've got a lot of body fat that needs burning off lol so er, i don't think i'll be using the "all you can eat" option that some of my other team members have...

i still can't believe i'm here... i went up to the viewing dome last night and it was completely pitch black... there is no one around for miles! it's so tranquil and i love it. i've already started thinking about how i could potentially base my dissertation up here lol just so i could come up and use the centre during university because i believe that staying here for research purposes is either free or very cheap. saw a glimmer of the northern lights, it was kinda cloudy though so it was just a green strip in the sky.

right. i'm gonna go get some coffee :) no doubt i'll tell you guys all about working in the field later on today.

much love
