This post is for everyone reading who has ever donated to the Rath Tattoo Fund over the last couple of years, when you've asked me what I wanted for my birthday/Christmas/whatever and I've said "tattoo money, please!" I know it's been a while coming (I was saving up), but I wanted to say thank you, and to show you where it all finally went!
That is my upper left arm, now almost entirely hidden from view by a full-colour tattoo of the Ghost Rider and his bike in all their blazing glory. Work by
Fabio, Cambridge's resident master tattooist who seems to be slowly working his way through half the local rock/goth crowd; somewhere around seven hours of work total over three sessions.
Yes, it does mean something more than just that I'm a diehard Ghost Rider fan. ;) Those of you who have seen the Ghost Rider movie may remember Johnny Blaze's personal mantra of "You can't live in fear" - when I saw the film, this struck a very deep chord with me. I never again want to live in fear; whether that be because someone else is threatening me or trying to control me, or because I'm afraid of "what might happen", or because I just can't make myself face up to the things I need to do. I don't want to miss out on my life because of being frightened of people or things or possible consequences. So what's the tattoo for? It's to remind me to be brave, to face my fears, and to do what's right for me no matter what. (It also has the side effect of making sure that there are a whole lot of situations in which I damn well can't ever get my head below the parapet and lie about who I am, ever again. *grin*)
So yeah, thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone whose contributions helped to pay for this - you have given me a gift that will last a lifetime, and that's more than most Christmas and birthday presents manage. *s* Thank you. I hope you like the results!
Love,
Rath
