Short update, but I have to share this, because GUYS GUYS GUYS I NEARLY FELL OVER A DEER TODAY. I was out in Dalby Forest with my parents and
apprentice_lurk, and I was leading the way as we went down a narrow trail. All of a sudden, out of the undergrowth less than twenty feet from me, up popped a roe deer buck with a full set of antlers, his coat shining russet-red among the dark of the leaves, absolutely gorgeous. He just stuck his head out of the bushes, looking right at me with huge dark eyes, and I think both of us nearly jumped out of our skins. Like an idiot I yelped out loud with surprise, and he took one leap, bolted right across the path and was gone up the bank on the other side in a second. 'Boots barely glimpsed his hindquarters as he cleared the path, and mum and dad didn't see him at all. I feel unbelievably privileged - I've never been anywhere near that close to a wild deer before in my life, and to lock eyes even for a split second with such an amazingly beautiful creature took my breath away. Just. Wow. *_*
And then it poured down and we drove back through the forest and over the moors in the rain, and it was so beautiful I don't even know how to do it justice. Today has been a good day to be alive. <3
