travel and such

What a weird week.

I walked in the house at 11:45pm on Sunday to have the hubby say, "I'm packed, let's go."

"Where?" saith I.

"To the outfitters to pick up a couple of demo boats, then to the Nantahala River for 3 days."

"Um," saith I.  "Do you have the food packed? My clothes packed?"

"No. So hurry."

At 1:30am Monday morning, we took off (without gas in the RV). We found a station with pumps on at 2:30 am (by luck) and drove till 3 am when we crashed--to sleep, not into something--in a Wal-Mart parkinglot. UP at 7:30 am, we made it to the outfitters at 9, picked up demo boats and then made it to the Nante for the 1:30 pm shuttle to the top of the run.

The Nante is something like 8 miles long, with continuous class IIs (big honking wave trains that are higher than a boater barrelling down at them) and the water is 49 degrees in midsummer (which it ain't) and it was a totally sweet run! I had a ball, even though I came out and had to swim the bottom of the final class III! The boats were awesome and now I want one (but they run over a grand each) and I have to put one in the book. Pearly white, LiquidLogic ReMix 59s. Oh yeah!

Ahem. Sorry. Got carried away there.

Then the next day (after the pain killers kicked in) we hiked the old growth forest and I grieved for the 400+ year old trees that are dying. Well, they are dead. Some kind of fungus. It just sickens me to see the huge trees, and someone just let them die over the past 3 years. I have pics. I'll get them up some time.

Now I have 10 pages to write.
