Dean spotted the mutt through the trees. He was running trials far from civilization, so it was probably a runaway. Dean tried to approach it, but it kept just out of full view, which was why it took a while for Dean to realize that the dog was a German Shepherd. It was mangled and had been abused for a long period of time. Dean had some of his homemade jerky in his pack, so he tried to tempt the dog with it.
The dog refused to come near, it kept running off and then checking to see if Dean was following. Dean sniffed to try to spot a trap… and realized that he couldn’t smell the dog.
It was a spirit dog.
Shit.
Dean considered for a moment and then he plowed through the woods to wherever (whoever) the dog led. The dog led him to a cave. And a man. The man snarled at Dean. He was as beaten and abused as the dog. He had a metal arm. Everything about the man said dangerous and violent and… hell… feral.
But Dean had seen the spirit animal first so he knew that the man was (yes) dangerous, violent and feral but also starving, confused and in great need of assistance. Dean sighed but threw his precious venison jerky at the man’s face. He caught it with his metal arm and with very little hesitation, dug in and started eating and then he ate faster when he didn’t get sick.
Dean crouched in place and waited. He knew that the other Sentinel would end up following him home. He knew that Sam would have several choice words to say. He knew that he would have a running partner with as many issues as himself for a bit and then he would hand off the other Sentinel to the Guide with the bald eagle spirit guide overhead.
