LHtF Snippet: Learning the Value of Silence

“There you are!” Mike Ross announced in the open doorway. Harvey, Donna and Rachael looked up from their tablets. He supposed that the mess hall for the Marines wouldn’t have been the first place to look for the trio on the Daedalus, but the men and women in uniform always had an answer for the Pegasus’ vocabulary that the civilians were learning and they weren’t as stuck up (or busy) as the scientists.

“Come on!” Mike waved at them. “Come on! I negotiated something special. You have to come see, quickly.”

Curious, Harvey and the ladies followed Mike through the hallways of the spaceship (and Harvey’s inner geek was still thrilled at the thought).

“Keep your mouths shut,” Mike warned the final door opened and the four of them walked onto the bridge. The Colonel in command tightened his lips but nodded once at Mike. He turned to the view screen. Harvey’s eyes followed and saw the Daedalus ‘slow out of the hyperdrive’ and obtain orbit over a planet. That was breathtaking in itself, but then the colonel gave the order to land and Harvey got to see Atlantis for the first time. It was a beautiful sparking snowflake in the middle of the ocean and it only became more beautiful as details come into focus, sleek towers and ‘stainglass.’

Exquisite fell short of defining the moment.

LHtF: Learning the Truth
For lkrumwiede
prompt: SGA/SPN: stealthy (CA POV)

Eyal Levine watched from the carefully hidden cleft with his new boss, Jack O’Connell and the rest of the recruited spies. The scientists on Atlantis had rigged up a special Ancient device so that Auggie could ‘see’ outside of Ancient structures. They were on another world (!!!) and the spies needed to see a wraith up close. Jack and Dean had gotten some sort of intel that a few hunter wraiths would be on this planet on this day. Something about an arrangement with a runner and how they hadn’t had enough time to get the tracker out of her at the first meeting.

Dean went out to trap the wraith and he said that he could do it within view of this hiding place. Eyal was expecting something from MacGyver or something alien, but Dean had etched something in the dirt and then poured what looked like gunpowder into the etchings. He covered the whole thing with dirt and then jogged away to distract the wraith from the runner, with himself as bait.

Eyal couldn’t imagine how it would work and he could hear Dean’s “HEY DUMBASS VAMPS, THIS WAY!” yell. He couldn’t imagine anything less stealthy. He wasn’t sure he could work when this was the status quo. Then Dean came tearing over the ridge with four wraith in pursuit. He ran through his previous work and stood on the other side, taunting. The wraith ran into the etching and somehow stopped, as if they had run into a wall!

Dean laughed at them but ran out of sight once they started shooting him.

“This wasn’t a demonstration of wraith,” Auggie realized. “This was a demonstration of what Dean can do.”

Eyal blinked at Jack. He hadn’t even guessed that was the purpose of the trip but, of course, Auggie was correct.

Jack was unrepentant. “You’d never believe me without a demo.”
