A mini-break from journalling, though I have been keeping up with most of you to the best of my ability. I have just been feeling weirdly unmotivated to write much, in general. Life lately has mostly consisted of:

Cooking fine food and drinking lots of wine, day dreaming, being amused by/with my housemates, reading Sleeping Beauty and making notes ( Read more... )

How about your own mini-meadow? :)

That is a really nice idea! The thing is, the wall has fallen down and would be too labour-intensive (and rather pointless task, being a rented student property) and costly to fix and neaten. If it had a higer wall/wooden fence to cover next door's (a dry clarner's) rubbish (rusty old bomb shelter and various disused detergent cans etc) it would be a little haven. It does have potential. We have not yet decided if we are staying here, but if we do - we need to decide soon. We are short of one person to live here you see as R is moving out come July. But if we do stay, that is deifnitely a good idea. A wild meadow with a section for herbs and mini-trees. Thanks for the link, it has been bookmarked :)

Definitely good stuff for planting over a roughish, not
too large area. If you scythe it down, not too close, in
the autumn, the plants generally return the following year.
You'll just have to make a rockery out of the fallen wall ;)

Yes, I wish! If we do stay, I will consider doing something anyway. But the wall is rough in a rusty-iron-old-wooden-fence-wire-with-stone kind of way. A bit of a mix of all kinds of junk that would need ripping out and taking to a dump. That would be the hardest part, but as it is a small area, it would not be too much trouble. We wouldn't, of course, remove any fencing even if it is dead (rented property etc). I hope wherever I live next has some kind of outdoor area that I could transform into an escapism.

The place sounds more like a breeding ground for tetanus
than a growing place for plants. One of my relatives
caught it a while back helping on a farm and it very
nearly did him in. If you start sorting out this patch
of ground make sure you get a booster jab! Apparently
the soil in this country is pretty well chock full of
the stuff, though I gather it's at its worst in
predominantly potato growing areas for some reason.
-One more bit of useless information from the Freddie
Tharos House of Horticulture.
