I did it! I finally finished v2.0 of The Shakespeare Thing!!!
*flails*
What, exactly, does this mean? (for those of you just now tuning in)
Truthfully, I probably could argue that this is the fifth or sixth draft, since that's about the number of things I've gone back to the very beginning, tweaked and overhauled, and started combing the effect of my overhauls and tweaks through the rest of the manuscript. But not until right now have I gotten all the way from beginning to end and crosschecked all the changes, overhauls, and tweaks to have a complete draft of contiguous continuity (that is, from start to finish).
And what all has changed since the first draft rolled off the presses of Nanowrimo 2009?
- Cut four characters, and all but cut a fifth
- Invented four different (infinitely superior) characters
- Worldbuilding, worldbuilding, worldbuilding
- Enhanced a curse
- Discovered my protagonist's motivations
- Changed the surname of my protagonist's family
- Almost killed someone for real
- Made it a kissing book
I love this book. I love it so much. And I hope, in less than a year, that it will be ready to send forth into the world (read: agents).
Am starting a new tag: "Plateau of Triumph" I kind of love it. Feel free to borrow, if you like.
ETA: Note to self-- next time I enjoy a plateau of triumph, schedule it NOT when Castle is airing. ;-) *pets Herbie the cricket*
