Over ten years ago, deep in the throes of accounting school, I discovered fanfic. And I went looking for handmaiden fanfic, because if anything in fandom is both awesome and underrepresented (the breeding ground of Needs Fanfic Now, obviously), it's Star Wars handmaidens.

As my good fortune would have it, a lovely young fangirl from Michigan was embarking on an endeavor to write the life story and TPM experience of all five of Queen Amidala's handmaidens, one by one.

When Sache8 read Obischick's story -- (comment #21, please kindly overlook my typos)

emmaorgana was my very very very very first internet friend. Back when fandom on the internet was this blazing, terrifying, wonderful, spectacular thing, and there were so few people who understood handmaidens! We exchanged about a billion private messages over theforce.net and talked about maybe meeting up (*gasp*) at Cedar Point some time, since it was so nice and in between our two homes, and I remember her going to college, all squeaky green and excited and telling me about her classes and this boy she thought was kind of cute... the list goes on.

I have made dozens of friends from all over the world online. Met quite a lot of them too.

But Emma was my very, very first.

And today I'm going to her wedding.

(I should probably mention that she's NOT marrying the cute boy from the above-mentioned freshman college class. She found a different cute boy who likes hockey a lot).

Excuse me while I dab at the first of many, many tears.
