"'S going alright. Found a guy who's gonna loan me a down payment and work it off renovating some places for him. That'll make it a lot easier to get a loan. In the meantime, I found a cabin out the other side of Harriman State Park. It's just one bedroom, and there's no electric run out to it, but a generator will do just fine for a place that small. Needs a lot of work, but it's the kind of stuff I used to do with my dad, so it should actually be kinda fun."
He was a little suspicious of Keith - most people weren't so ready to hand out a wad of cash. But the terms of the contract had been clear enough. Besides, Luke could come off as shady himself; didn't mean he was crooked.
Luke sighed happily and put an arm over River's shoulders. He'd have liked to have purred. "I'm alright, really. Relieved to be out of the hospital. I thought I was going to go mad so far upstate, without you coming by as often," he said, touching his forehead to hers. It was a familiar gesture by now, Luke's odd habit of gentle head-butting to show affection.
But that strange tension was still there. He had to find a moment appropriate to break it.

He watched her move around the room, all graceful and pretty, and his smile relaxed until it was genuine. "Those are pretty; what are they?"
