We got a George Foreman grill with changeable plates for Christmas from my parents. Mmm, waffles, grilled meat-stuffs, and quesadillas. We tested it out with waffles this morning. WAFFLES. Yum.
For future reference: less batter--we can't eat more than one waffle each, 'cause they're huge; perhaps a batter including eggs--we didn't have any today and tried an eggless recipe, and it felt a little heavy, even for a waffle.

We also got a cast-iron skillet with a gift card from
_robot_heart_ . When I bought the pan from the website, I recall it saying that we didn't need to season it because it had an enamel coating on the inside. The tag says it has a matte enamel coating. But it must be black matte and look startlingly like cast-iron itself.
I wasn't sure what to get from the World Market, as I'd never actually seen that store in the flesh and hadn't the faintest what they had. (This isn't a slight on the gift itself; I just wasn't familiar with the store.) Sebastian suggested that I look for a cast-iron skillet and voila! I just need to figure out if we actually need to season it or not. Just checked, it is pre-seasoned. Now we can make cornbread, according to Sebastian. I've never had one before, but Sebastian used to have one and just loved it.

Christmas Eve dinner was pretty good. Seb's mom made barbeque chicken and potato salad, and I brought green bean casserole. Christmas day fare included an oven roasted turkey breast, cranberry sauce, more green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, stuffing and gravy. The first three were made and brought over by my parents and the last three were made by me, though Sebastian did help stir the gravy. My dad also made pumpkin custard, which is essentially pumpkin pie without the crust. DELICIOUS.
Sebastian and I had bought some wine originally for Thanksgiving, but we hadn't consumed it then, so we had it with dinner. My parents enjoyed it--I think my mom really enjoys wine, but is probably like me in that she doesn't know much about it. And she is usually disinclined to purchase alcohol (she's not a drinker, social or otherwise, and my dad comes from two alcoholic parents), so there you go. But she does like it during special occasions.

And this has nothing to do with food, but work was crazy yesterday and will probably be crazy again today. I close, so I'll be there LATE, and I'm curious to see how busy it is later in the evening. Especially on a Sunday, when we usually close at 8. Blergh. The nice thing is, my parents will be coming up to shop and will be taking me out for dinner. Sweet. (I guess I got food in there after all, heh.)
