The Other Boleyn Girl...

As most of you already know, I'm in love with England's rich history. Actually, all of Europe's history.

I did enjoy the movie, no, it wasn't just because Eric Bana got to play Henry VIII. It was because it captured bravely the missing chapter in King Henry VIII's sex life and his life with Mary Boleyn. There were pieces told in history books about Mary and Henry but I tend to ask more questions rather than find the answers.

Well, it paved way to the Church of England right?! So can you imagine me musing on when the movie will be out?

Anyway, about the movie. I love the story but I'm not quite sure if it can be understood by an audience who doesn't know the history of English Monarcha. It talks about incest, treason, adultery, etc. and I'm kinda adamant that one who watches the movie and doesn't have any idea on the history may have this notion that the Court of Henry VIII is all about scandals. :(

The movie started a little slow but then after Mary became pregnant, it became fast-paced that they left some stuff or story behind. There were characters that didn't get introduced but mentioned in the film, causing more troubles on the already questioning minds.

I guess, this is the problem when you take a book and make it into a film. It takes a very good scriptwriter and director to capture the essence that the book had. Take for example, Lord of the Rings and Brokeback Mountain and even some of the Harry Potter movies. These movies did capture what was written on the book and they made me like the movie as much as I love the book.

Anyway, I'm getting so way off topic now. Overall, I did enjoy the movie. I did enjoy the acting (although there's something lacking in Eric's performance, I wouln't call it brilliant as what he's done in Troy).
