The Tiffin Flood

Dec 01, 2006 14:10

A little rain never hurt anyone, right?

Nope.

The ground up in Tiffin, OH was already soaked and it led to the flooding of Rock Creek. Everything on the Rock Creek floodplain is now underwater: the softball field, the volleyball court, most of the track, and a good portion of King residence hall. All of the cars parked in the King lot are under a good two feet of water...and still rising.

How high's the water, Mama? Two feet high and rising.

They have since called in a Jeep with chains that is trying to pull all of the cars out of that lot. The cars in the Campus Center lot are being moved, too. They called in a shuttle to move everyone over in King. The bridge that goes across Rock Creek will be flooded if another few inches of water falls. The basement is already flooded and the wind is absolute murder.

I went down toward everything to take pictures for the newspaper. The bleachers next to the track are surrounded by water. Only a hump in the middle of the track is above water. There are ducks swimming on the soccer field. And it just keeps on coming. They are even ticketing people trying to go to the Y.

A lot of my friends are traveling this weekend...Sarah and Costina are going to Columbus for the LSAT. Tim and Abby are going so that Tim can take his GRE. I'm supposed to go to Findlay tonight with Jes and Katie, and to Columbus tomorrow with my quad and Chen to see Leslie. Mike B. has his sister's wedding tomorrow. He left at 1 to make sure that he would get there in time because Metro/Cleveland had already lost power.

*sighs* Welcome to December.

Pictures to be posted soon.
