We just got back from the AIDS Awareness Banquet, held tonight in the Great Hall to benefit Camp Sunrise, a camp for children affected by HIV and AIDS.
The event was an amazing success. We raised over $500 for the camp and had a wonderful time. The food was superb: salad, breadsticks, spaghetti, and cake. The entertainment was better. Cody was our Master of Ceremonies. We had performances by Brett and Neal, the Phis, and readings from David, Cody, and D.K.
There was also choral entertainment. We had a quintet that sang "The Star Spangled Banner" and "The Lord Bless You and Keep You." But the story of the night was the 12 person choral ensemble, led by Steve Tharp (who was marvelous). They sang "Lord, Make Me an Instrument of Your Peace" and were beautiful.
The highlight of the evening by far was the choir's rendition of "Seasons of Love," with solos from Tediyra and David. They were amazing. It felt like over half the audience was singing along with them. They got a standing ovation and some people were crying.
Dean Troha said that this was the best event he had been to in five years.
But the fun didn't stop there. We got to keep the roses from the centerpieces and got to move the massive balloon arch downstairs. Robyn and I had the time of our lives going outside and shaking the glitter and tinsel off the tablecloths and into the snow.
In short, tonight was absolutely breathtaking.
