Jack and Coke...where are you?

So today started out as a regular day, wake up at about 4:30 in the PM. I'm on night shift guard duty. I was on my way to work in the back of the truck, along with about ten other people. We were rounding the less secure part of the FOB. (Forward Operating Base) The walls are a little shorter on this side. So I'm looking outside the FOB and I observe a white flash and an orange flash followed by a boom. I figured a convoy had hit an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) on the road. I see another flash and then I realize that the only road out there is behind the treeline, and that these flashes were clearly before the treeline. I hear a couple explosions and quickly realize we're being attacked by indirect fire. They were lobbing mortars in here and launching rockets from about a klick or so out. I hear the sound of a rocket soaring over the truck and haul ass off the back of it. I had all my gear on, and I don't know how I didn't break, or atleast roll my ankle jumping off, because it is fairly high up. It must have been adrenaline that prevented that. I'm off the truck running towards any type of bunker...when I come to the sudden realization that there are no bunkers out this way...the closest one is past the range near the firing point where the field artillery guys man the howitzers. I find the closest sort of concrete wall, kneel, and light a cigarette to wait for the All Clear netcall.

Other than that, I had a great day.
