The thing I wouldn't admit unanon is that before I found those things out, I told them about all of the character's major storylines and interactions with one big difference: I referred to them using male pronouns. And she loved them.
So not only does she not know a lot about the character she claims to hate so much, she wouldn't mind what little she does know if it was a male character.
I'm almost tempted to tell her but she's probably throw a tantrum.

And come back here and tell us all about it

I'm confused - is this a case of your friend having seen only a few episodes where the thing she hates happened (or even worse only heard about something that happened that she hates) but hasn't seen the whole thing so she knew nothing about the other storyline for the character?
And is the character she hates male or female? you said the one big difference was that you referred to the character with male pronouns but it sounds like she already knew he was male...

You probably mean male?
Hearing some storylines vaguely outlined is a really different experience from actually experiencing a canon. There are so many characters I should love on paper, but for some reason the canon execution doesn't work for me at all. Or vice versa, characters I would never in a million years expect to love if someone just vaguely outlined their plot function and personality, but that still end up being my favourites.
So you can stop being all smug about your friend.

One character can be scheming and it can be gleeful fun to watch. A different character can be scheming and make you seethe. (It's the same for any adjective: ambitious, selfish, clueless, etc...)

How you summarized the storylines may not have been quite the same as how the original did, often it's how you say/do it, not the bare bones of what the character did. If you like the character, perhaps you conveyed that in the way you described their actions.
If it were me, I would subtly remind my friend of the old conversations, and also about the storylines, in kind of Socratic questioning, see if she comes to the realization by herself.
I immediately thought of Buffy from years ago; I used to ponder my own hypocrisy for hating her, she's awfully whiny and self-absorbed as a woman, but if she were male and played by a sympathetic actor, with similar interactions, I'd probably like her, because alpha males are allowed to be self-absorbed. It might just be that I think SMG is a bitch, and an unsympathetic actress. Or it might all be the fault of sour Skittles.

I've met with a lot of "how can you dislike this character, when you're a fan of that other character, and they're totally the same!" arguments, and usually people who say them are disregarding a lot of the nuances and context that makes the characters and the situation regarding their actions different.
I find it a lot more likely that you just described it all very vaguely and left out some details that might be unimportant for your enjoyment of the character, but are very important for your friend. Or she didn't know the context, or imagined it looking differently than it was portrayed in canon.

This! Like how are Batman and Black Widow even remotely the same? Because they're both non-powered people surrounded by superhumans? What?

Just changing the actor can produce very different characters even if the script stays exactly the same, as anyone who likes theatre can attest. With two different characters it's even less likely that they're "exactly the same".
And in my experience gender does matter. There are certain tropes that I hate with female characters, but that I find appealing with male characters. And the other way around.
When we're talking about some very vague descriptions that the OP used to deliberately try to set their friend up it gets even more ridiculous.

This is definitely true for me. On the other hand, I've also run into fans bashing a female character for certain actions while excusing or downplaying those same actions in a male character, which I think is different from finding a character unappealing on the basis of certain tropes.
