Christmas

I love Christmas. I love it more than Thanksgiving, because as a member of the 'large' population of the world, I feel guilty about a holiday that exists for just over eating. The early Thanksgiving was great - the harvest had been done, abundance was everywhere, the hard work of the fields was over for another year. Gratitude and good humor was everywhere.  And while I still love the spirit of Thanksgiving, it just doesn't do it for me.

Besides, November is such a dreary month. It's the month where the beautiful fall foliage becomes the crunchy (or wet) corpses of summer past (to quote an awesome comedy comic kawaiinot.com).

Christmas is the light in the darkness. Yeah it's been over-commercialized but when one hates snow, the bright lights everywhere warms the spirit. It helps in the forgetting of the cold and the wet.

And every year my family (my husband, me and our kids) has bought an ornament for each of us. Our goal is that when our kids get married, we can send each kid off with a small box of Christmas ornaments (if they want them). That way they will have a start on Christmas tree decorating. Of course, if they don't want them, then my hubby and I will have ornaments for all our memories.

Mine always look vintage, my husband's look 'high-tech' if you can call LED ornaments high-tech, and for our kids we have tried to pick ones with years on them. This year I think I will nix the buying of my ornament and make mine. There are some beautiful beaded ornament covers that invoke the thought of Victorian lampshades. The beautiful patterns, the long fringes. Lovely!

If anyone is interested look up Beaded Ornament Cover. There are some awesome (some cheesy) covers out there. And they're so darn expensive. I like 'em, I might as well make 'em, especially since I'm learning how.
