In the middle of a long day

This morning I got one of "those" phone calls. The ones you dread and you leave your phone on overnight for. My dad who is always calm and cool in a crisis called me with panic in his voice. "Your mom passed out and fell and we are taking her in the ambulance." That's all I heard and I was in the car in 30 seconds. Half asleep and with a birds nest on my head but wide awake with adrenaline.

I beat the ambulance to the hospital and actually had to turn around and go back to meet up with them. By this time I was calmer because my cousin called to tell me she was awake and talking when they took her.

She is OK. It looks like her blood pressure dropped and she just fainted. No signs of heart attack or stroke. They admitted her to monitor her overnight just in case.

Now me, my dad and my brother on the other hand are 3 walking disasters. It's like we can handle any crisis any natural disaster, even two funerals this year of blood relatives but none of us can handle anything having to do with my Mom. She's the one who keeps us all together you know? It's hard to imagine how we'd survive without her.

So were all stuffed into a tiny, shared hospital room surrounding her and probably smothering her to death but we can't seem to pull away. I went home and showered, hugged and kissed my daughter til she complained, went by my moms to pick up her stuff and I'm back here in this stinky, depressing hospital sitting with my mom and brushing her hair which miraculously has barely any greys.
