"I know you're not too busy; you avoid work like the plague. Unless it actually is the plague."

I have officially rejoined the ranks of the working. Today, I had my first temp assignment in five and a half months, and next Tuesday, I start a part-time (three days a week) assignment in Bethesda that should last at least a month.

With any luck, that will give me time to get my act together, graduate, and get back in shape so I can pass the physical and finally get shipped off to Basic.

Earning money again is also a perk.

Today actually started out quite badly: I got very, very lost on the way to the office and ended up an hour and a half late. "How the HELL did she manage to get that lost?" you're thinking. I don't really have an answer. I'm just talented that way. I locked myself out of my apartment two days ago, too. Locked myself out stepping out the door to shake the crumbs out of a bag. Fun times.

After that, though, the day perked up. The office is minute (four regular employees plus one receptionist (me, today)), everyone was surprisingly nice, and I made up half an hour by taking a short lunch.

Went to see the optometrist tonight for the first time in two years. It is hoped that my new contacts will arrive within a week. I am glad. I am growing tired of spectacles.

Stars is going to play at the 9:30 Club in October. I am sorely tempted to stick around that long just to see them. It's depressing how much good music is going to be at the 9:30 Club this fall: Paolo Nutini, The National, Iron & Wine, The New Pornographers....

Anthropologie's fall line is out. This is why I love fall. Sweaters make me ridiculously happy.

Also? It is only eight-thirty, and I'm tired. I actually want to go to bed. It feels great.
