Drat, drat and double drat

Last weekend was Adam's bday BBQ which was pretty awesome I have to say. We had an insane amount of food as usual, I made 60-70 homemade burger patties in various flavours which turned out delicious, plus all the usual sides, plus the dishes other people brought. I went to bed about 2am, apparently the last few stayed up until 5am before crashing out. Sunday I plied them all with coffee and breakfast sausages and leftovers, and they eventually left again at 5pm. But the best part was that Liz, Joel and Marcus took Jake with them. He landed on Sat night and arrived at the party about 9pm, so he had been back in the country less than 24 hours and he moved out *LOL* Still waiting for him to organise moving his bed and computer stuff out, but Joel and co basically convinced him why both unpacking here when he was moving out anyway?

This week has been a big week. I had Monday off and spent most of it doing post-party cleaning etc. Tuesday I did a half-day each at SSU and Union and then running around with Shelfa trying to organise her proxy enrolement stuff because she suddenly needs to go overseas to see family and will miss enrolement this week. Wednesday was Australia Day, it was hot and I suffered sewing fail while trying to make myself a pair of shorts, but the day got much better when Bri and Rowan came over and we all headed down to Circular Quay for a lovely dinner and then we went to the Opera House to see Amanda Fucking Palmer! It was an amazing show, her support acts The Jane Austen Argument and Michelangel and the Dead Sea Gentlemen was fantastic, and Neil Gaiman also read some stories for us which was amaaaaaaazing. The show opened with Missed Me and Amanda ran around the audience in her Union Jack corset and insane faux-bustle skirt, and came past us close enough to touch a couple of times. Charisma just drips off that woman, all I could do was sit there with my mouth open, trying not to breathe too loudly in case she bolted like a wild animal.

Thursday I volunteered at Big Day Out again, and this time I dragged Branko along with me. Once again between the early morning (I'd got to bed around 2am after AFP, then gotten up at 7 to make BDO entry), the heat and the manual labour, I was pretty exhausted after my shift and ended up heading home soon after 8pm even though I really wanted to see Grinderman at 11pm. It didn't help that I'd torn my jeans and cut my thigh open, so I'd ditched the jeans and turned my free BDO shirt into a skirt for the evening, but my leg was stinging like a bitch with all the sweat etc. The shower I had when I got home was pretty awesome.

Friday was one of those draaaaagging days, thanks to my being achey and tired which made it hard to concentrate. I've been thinking that I should cut down my caffeine intake for the next couple of weeks so that when Orientation hits I 1) actually get a hit from coffee/ red bull/ etc and 2) survive. Since a 'normal' day can see me consume 3-5 coffees and at least one diet coke, plus energy drinks on occasion... so anyway, Friday I figured I'd start this process of limiting myself, so when I had a short break in meetings at about 12:30 I grabbed a muesli bar instead of coffee, only to find weevils in it (eeewww!). Walked around KG campus 3 times on my aching feet while my stomache roiled. Finally got back to the city campus about 3:30pm and as soon as I could I went to the Union cafe to grab something because I was starving and they're the only thing open during hols. Their kitchen closed at 2pm, but did I want a coffee? Then Shelfa finally turned up late to give me a signed proxy so I finished up my work and she insisted on buying me a coffee to say thank you and by that stage I was all FUCK IT THE UNIVERSE WANTS ME TO BE HIGHLY CAFFEINATED!!! Screw thisn moderation business.

Yesterday was a lovely BBQ lunch in the park for samuel_sock's birthday, then to Liz and Joels for Johnno's bday. All very social. And today is for sewing, yay!

coffee good, smac friends, gigs, music, birthdays, big day out, pn gig, union
