Author's Notes: Lazy Hazy Summer Daze #31 for azewewish who wanted Dom/Brian "family is who we are" and zortified who wanted Dom/Eliot "bonding" so I smushed them together and this is what happened. :)
There's not much to do to the car, but Dom and Eliot tinker with it anyway, finding little things here and there that need tweaking. That's how it always is when they get together -- crack open some beers, hit the garage, and get elbow deep in motor oil and axle grease.
It's relaxing. Rewarding. And neither one of them really needs to talk much.
Yeah, sure, they trade their stories. Eliot fills Dom in on Parker and Hardison and whatever crazy shit they're up to this time, and in return, Dom tells Eliot the real story behind Brazil.
They're still swapping tales, making each other crack up, when Brian appears in the garage door. The expression on his face is enough to silence their laughter.
Brian just holds out the phone, tells Dom he needs to listen to the message. And Eliot holds his silence as Dom listens, his knuckles turning white as his grip on the phone tightens. Then the phone sails through the air, exploding when it hits the wall.
Before Eliot can move, before he can even think, Brian is right there.
He's wrapped around Dom in a way that Eliot recognizes, one hand curled tight around the back of Dom's neck, the other arm wrapped low around his waist. And Dom fights. But Brian refuses to let go, holding on, holding tight, until Dom just stops.
Eliot wants to ask what happened, because he knows Mia is in the house fixing them all lunch. It's got to be family, because Eliot knows Dom. Knows him well enough to know that family is the only thing that can get that intense of a reaction from Dom.
When Brian looks over and quietly tells him that Han was murdered the previous night in Tokyo, Eliot stares at him and tries to process the words.
He doesn't know Han beyond a few casual meetings years back when he'd run into Dom and his crew in Guadalajara, but he knows that Han is family. Just like Eliot knows that he's considered family (at least by Dom) even though he's never tried to claim the title.
He does now, his feet hitting the floor as he slides from the bench he'd been sitting on. He knows people, he tells them, shaking his head when Dom tries to protest. He knows people, and those people are good.
Those people will help make this right.
Brian tells Dom to listen to Eliot, and Dom's shaking his head, but he's not pulling away from Brian. And his eyes -- rid rimmed and angry -- are focused on Eliot. Half a world away or right next door, it doesn't matter.
Han was family.
And family's who we are, Brian reminds Dom, their foreheads touching, his hand still around the back of Dom's neck in a loose grasp now. Eliot hears Brian say he'll call Tej and Roman, and Dom just nods. Then he looks at Eliot.
Make your calls is all he says, his voice a low, broken growl, and Eliot nods, already reaching for his phone.
