Stiles spends so much time at the loft over the summer that Cora's quit threatening to punch him in the face every time she sees him. He counts that as a win.
He's there more often than he's at home, even going so far as to call his dad and let him know he's sleeping over two or three times a week. After the fifth time of that happening, Derek stops growling at him and just rolls his eyes before searching the meager supplies for a blanket and extra pillow. Stiles counts that as an even bigger win.
He drags Cora to Target one afternoon because, honestly, Derek has no furniture, no dishes, he doesn't even have a proper pair of sheets. So Stiles appropriates Derek's credit card, grabs Cora, and off they go. And when the cashier totals the sale, he winces. Derek is going to kill him. Cora just huffs and mumbles that it's fine, Derek has money, don't ask. Stiles doesn't. He just counts it as another win.
They spend the next few weeks scrubbing the place from top to bottom, and Stiles refuses to let Derek leave the loft until they're too exhausted to move. But when they're done, the place sparkles with new paint, curtains, and furniture that is actually comfortable. Stiles fidgets until Derek looks around and slowly nods. It's another win.
Grocery shopping is an adventure. Derek doesn't want to go, Stiles refuses to eat take-out one more night, and Cora swears that if she has to make do with Ramen noodles again, someone is going to get punched. In the face. She's looking at Stiles when she says it. So he shoves them all out the door and into his Jeep and they head out. It's a small win, but still a win.
They bicker up and down the aisles, choosing their items by democracy. Given some of the things they choose, Stiles isn't entirely sure that's a good idea. And he tells them so, loudly and often. Typically, they ignore him. Cora sneaks in Pop-Tarts and Lucky Charms. Derek drops Cocoa Puffs and Twinkies into the cart and gives Stiles such a look that Stiles just swallows and nods. Stiles isn't sure who won that one.
There ends up being more junk food than not in the cart, but Stiles figures they can get the healthy stuff next time. And when Derek grabs a twelve pack of Cherry Coke and drops it into the cart, Stiles stops in the middle of the aisle and stares at him. Derek hates the stuff and was pretty adamant about that hatred the one night they discussed it over too-salty popcorn and bad B-grade Sci-Fi movies. But he's put it in the cart because Stiles likes it. When Stiles continues to stare at him, Derek just shrugs and moves on to the next aisle.
Stiles counts that as winning the lottery.
