Summary: What if Dean had Faith on his side when Lillith came to collect his soul.
Word Count: 1203
They stare at the ticking clock on the wall as it counts down the minutes to midnight. Dean clutches her hand tightly and Faith feels a drop of sweat roll down the length of her spine. Faith can’t recall a time before this very moment that she was more afraid.
“Dean,” Faith starts to say but the words freeze on her tongue.
There’s nothing that she can say that will make this moment any easier. Dean jerks as he hears something that only he can hear. They’ve all failed him and now in a matter of minutes he’ll be taken to hell. Not even a Slayer can delay the hellhounds that are undoubtedly braying at the door. His hand tightens around hers and she knows that tomorrow there’ll be bruises.
“Faith.”
She turns to look at him and she can see the fear in his eyes and she leans forwards and kisses him. It’s a chaste kiss, just a simple brushing of their lips. There’s not enough time for anything else. She’s failed him, just like Bobby and Sam have also failed.
“I am not letting go of you without a fight,” Faith promises him.
“They’ll tear you apart,” Dean whispers as he tenses again.
She wonders how close the hellhounds are to them as she stands up. She pushes him behind her so that the wall is to his back and she’s pressed up in front of him.
“Is your gun loaded?” Faith asks as she lifts the scythe, comforted by it’s familiar weight.
“Yes but Faith, there’s no point.”
She turns and faces him. There’s no time to tell him that she’s not afraid and that if necessary she’ll be dragged to Hell with him in order to save him.
“I’ve faced worse than hellhounds and trust me this scythe is meant for a battle like this.”
“But you can’t see them,” Dean protests.
“And you’re going to tell me where they are, those sons of bitches aren’t dragging you to hell without a fight.”
“Faith,” Dean starts to protest, his body tense against hers.
“Shut it Dean, just tell me where they are, it might give Sam and Bobby just enough time.”
The door bursts open and Willow’s there, with a panicked look on her face. Faith smirks at the witch, grateful that Giles had responded to her request. Dean shivers against her back.
“Faith they’re close,” Willow says as she touches Faith’s temples.
A sense of heat flows from Willow’s fingertips through Faith’s body. She stumbles when she opens her eyes and finds that Willow has altered her vision. She knows without Willow saying anything that she can see the hellhounds clearly now.
“Go help Sam and Bobby figure out a way to destroy Dean’s contract,” Faith commands, her spine straighter as she squares her shoulders.
She can hear the horrible braying of the hounds and she’s determined to fight them. Dean tenses when the first one charges in the doorway and Faith laughs as she swings the scythe, cleaning slicing the hound in half. Dean pulls the trigger of his gun, nearly missing the second hound that charges into the room.
From the other room, the sounds of Willow’s chanting with Sam and Bobby rise and Faith ignores it as she keeps Dean safe, continually swinging the scythe, as Dean fires off round after round. The hellhounds keep coming one after another until the room is littered with their corpses and Faith’s nose is clogged with the scent of brimstone. Willow steps into the room and Faith can feel the witch’s power. Faith doesn’t spare Willow a look, instead she focuses on her task, even though she can feel Dean startle at the sight of Willow.
Willow chants in Latin as more and more hellhounds appear until a blonde follows them into the room. She grimaces at the sight of the dead hellhounds and Faith manages to kill two more of them.
“How dare you meddle in business that isn’t yours.”
The blonde holds up a hand at Faith suddenly finds that she can’t move and she tries not to panic.
“Ruby?” Sam asks, his voice confused.
“Not anymore, Sammy.”
“Lillith,” Dean grounds out.
Lillith merely smirks at them before she turns her attention to Faith. She strides forward and just as she is about to touch Faith’s jaw she’s jerked backwards and Faith can move again.
“I don’t care who you are bitch but keep your hands off,” Willow snarls.
Faith turns and sees that Willow’s hair and eyes have turned completely black. And for a brief moment she worries that the evil has consumed Willow whole. Faith turns back to face Lillith, the scythe gripped tightly in her hands, ready to charge if necessary.
“Do you think I am afraid of someone like you?” Willow asks with a laugh, “I’ve faced far worse than a petty little trumped demon like yourself.”
“You underestimate me,” Lillith silkily responds.
“Oh no I think it’s a case of you underestimate me,” Willow says.
Willow waves her hand and Lillith is forced backwards. The demon’s eyes widen in surprise and Willow smirks at her. Faith takes a step forward at a slight nod from Willow.
“Did you know that the scythe in Faith’s hands is rather deadly against all different types of creatures?” Willow casually asks.
Sam steps into the room with Ruby’s blade in his hand as Lillith tries to struggle against the invisible bonds that Willow has her bound in.
“The First was far harder to destroy than you will be,” Willow calmly states as she moves forward.
“Wh-what do you want?” Lillith asks, the terror bleeding into her voice.
“His contract destroyed,” Willow states as she points at Dean.
Sam and Faith continue forward, their weapons held out before them. Lillith imperceptibly nods.
“I want you to say the words,” Willow commands.
“His contract is yours,” Lillith spits out, her fear and disgust evident in her voice.
Dean tenses as a bolt of white hits him with Lillith’s words and Bobby runs to catch him. Willow snarls as she sends a bolt of black lightening Lillith’s way and the demon screams in agony. The demon falls to the ground and curls up as wave after wave of energy hits her. Faith turns to Willow and places a hand on her shoulder.
“Willow,” Faith quietly states. “It’s enough,”
“It’ll never be enough, that bitch was involved in torturing Angel.”
“We’re better than them,” Faith says.
Willow nods as she ends the spell. Her face is a mask of hatred and anger and Faith shivers under the weight of that dark gaze, still she doesn’t falter as she grips Willow’s hand. Dean steps up to Willow’s other side and takes her hand in his own. Her hair starts to change from black to red again and she begins to tremble. Lillith makes a strangled sound on the ground and Sam steps forward and drives Ruby’s blade home, destroying Lillith once and for all.
All that matters is that they’re all alive, Dean is safe and they’ve managed to destroy a high-ranking demon. Faith smiles at Dean.
“Told you that I wasn’t letting you be dragged off to Hell today.”
