Summary: His dad is just like Batman and Dean wants to grow up to be just like John Winchester.
Word Count: 292
The house is ancient and it makes noises all of the time. Noises that John Winchester has told his sons that are just the natural noise of an old house settling. Still Dean’s not too sure. He’s only eight years old but he knows that monsters are very real no matter what his teachers try to tell him. After all, his dad is like a superhero: by day he’s a mechanic and at night he fights monsters. His dad is just like Batman and Dean wants to grow up to be just like John Winchester.
There’s a sudden large creak and Dean forgets all about being brave like Batman as he trembles. He’s covered in a cold sweat yet he refuses to call out for his father. Dean knows the consequences about having watched the forbidden horror movie while his father had worked late. And he’s not about to confess now, instead he lies in his bed with his eyes wide open and his hands clenched into fists as he tries to wait out the night and his terror.
“Deanie can I sleep with you?”
Sam’s voice is small and sleepy in the dark but Dean’s secretly relieved by the request. Normally he’d be all tough and tell his brother that they’re big boys now and big boys sleep alone. But right now, he wants the comfort of his little brother. Together, Dean’s convinced, that they can fight off any monster.
“Yeah Sammie,” Dean whispers in the dark.
His younger brother creeps along the floor and slides into bed beside Dean. In a matter of minutes, Sam is asleep and the reassuring warmth of his small body tucked beside his own calms Dean down and allows him to fall asleep as well.
