Word Count: 1913

A sort of calm has fallen with the sudden arrival of night and Anyanka moves towards the tall open windows of the ballroom that lead into the garden. She deeply breathes in the cool night air, relishing the fact that it's heavily scented with blood, fear and death along with the fragrant flowers from the garden. There's a lingering scent of smoke from guns and burning buildings and it makes her body tingle with delight. This rebellion is all because of her.

"Really what could have caused all of this?" Halfrek asks, her voice disrupting the stillness of the night.

"A young woman upset that her lover refused to marry her."

"And she wished for all of this?"

There's a slight sneer in Halfrek's voice that Anyanka would like to stifle. This has to be her greatest moment yet all because a foolish young solider denied his Indian mistress the right to be his wife in favour of a pretty little vapid blonde Englishwoman. Although Anyanka will admit to herself, this could have happened without her, the fact that she was the spark that set off the powder keg is intoxicating. She'd be able to enjoy the fact that there's a dead couple laying in the garden if Halfrek wasn't present.

"Do I really need to explain how wishes work again?" Anyanka tiredly asks. "What ever are you doing here?"

"There are children here as well as spurned lovers," Halfrek spits out. "In fact I think that the children are far more important than the few spurned lovers."

Anyanka laughs, it's a bitter one as she turns away from the garden to face Halfrek. Why she puts up with this woman is beyond her, she's far superior than her. And the fact that Halfrek can't seem to let go of her daddy issues is rather pathetic. As always, Halfrek is dressed in an outfit native to the country that they are in whereas Anyanka had decided to play the part of foreign lady to the hilt. It fueled the young love-sick girl's wish to bring upon this rebellion, which in turn has caused the country to be awash in blood and death and destruction. Halfrek might sneer at the way it was brought in but Anyanka knows that the other demon enjoys the result just as much.

"So be done with your wishes and leave me be, I was rather enjoying the quietness of the night," Anyanka finally says.

Her crimson coloured skirts swish as she moves towards a table where there's a bottle of wine waiting for her. Halfrek watches her in a way that makes Anyanka feel strange. It's not unpleasant in the least but it's something that she hasn't really felt since she was a human girl raising rabbits and she had caught the eye of Olaf. She shakes her head and drinks some of the rich red wine straight from the bottle to dispel the feelings in the pit of her stomach.

"Don't you think it's odd how we always wind up in the same places?" Halfrek quietly asks, as she moves closer, the tiny silver bells attached to the silk of her clothes quietly jingling as she does so.

"Not really, it stands to reason that where there are scorned women there are sad little children wishing for so many things. As long as those pathetic little creatures don't wish away the cause of this rebellion, I don't care what you do."

"Why do you hate humanity so much?" Halfrek asks.

"Why do you love it so much?" Anyanka spits out in response.

"I don't, just the children."

"Who grow up to be monsters just like their parents have been in their place before them. This," Anyanka says with a wave of her wand. "Is far more important work than granting the sad little wishes of children who are upset because Mummy or Father didn't get them whatever their little hearts desire."

Halfrek holds out her hand and Anyanka hands her the wine bottle. The moon is finally coming out, washing the garden in lovely stages of silver and black. She feels like taking off her clothes and dancing beneath the moon like some sort of heathen. She feels like she's drunk an entire bottle of champagne and Halfrek's voice intrudes, ruining the moment.

"Oh Anyanka, one day you will understand," Halfrek says.

"One day, Halfrek, you will understand what it's like to be spurned by your lover for a lesser being."

"And one day Anyanka, you will find love and realize that all of this isn't worth a moment of pique because your lover has rejected you. The women who call you are weak and vindictive."

Anyanka narrows her eyes as she moves closer to Halfrek, her skirts swishing against the floor as she moves quickly to the other demon. Anyanka pins Halfrek against the table. There is nothing more important than her work, not even the pathetic children that Halfrek believes deserve her power. What Anyanka does is twofold: she grants the wishes of love-scorned women and she brings destruction to mankind.

"Just because they do not know the power they wield does not make them weak."

"Oh Anyanka look at you, if you're not careful, you will faint due to all of this emotion," Halfrek laughs. "You should try this mode of dress, it's far more comfortable than yards and yards of fabric and a corset."

Anyanka narrows her eyes at the other demon, it's always this way with Halfrek, She pushes and pushes until Anyanka has almost reached her limit and then Halfrek pulls away. Tonight, Anyanka is having none of that. She shifts closer so that her body is pressed against Halfrek's and places a kiss on the demon's mouth. Her hands grip Halfrek's biceps, holding her close as she claims Halfrek's mouth. Halfrek's quiet moan is almost lost to Anyanka's ears.

When she pulls back, Halfrek's cheeks are flushed and her eyes are dazed. Anyanka watches as Halfrek licks her lips as if trying to savour the taste of Anyanka on her mouth. Anyanka reaches for the bottle of wine and swallows more of it.

"Why are we wasting this glory, does it matter how it came about?" Anyanka asks when she sets the bottle back down on the table. "Wouldn't you rather shed your clothes and dance in the moonlight in that garden?"

"You've gone native on me," Halfrek says. "It reeks of death and urine in that garden."

"Hardly, the scent of the flowers is far stronger."

"Perhaps but what if someone catches us?" Halfrek asks, a tiny bit of fear lacing her voice.

Anyanka looks at the other demon in surprise.

"We're far more powerful than just what we're wished to do, you know that and if someone should happen to disturb us while I think we're both creative enough to come up with a form of punishment, don't you?" Anyanka practically purrs in Halfrek's ears.

Tomorrow, she'll probably go back to hating the other demon but tonight with the intoxicating feelings that are overwhelming her she doesn't care. It's been far too long since she's taken on a lover and she wants Halfrek. And she can tell the way that Halfrek doesn't push her away but draws her body closer that Halfrek wants her just as much.

"I suppose as long as whatever we do to any poor unfortunate who catches doesn't spark off another rebellion, D'Hoffryn does get upset whenever one of us gets a little too carried away."

Anyanka laughs knowing that D'Hoffryn delights in such destruction as much as she does. She slips her hands underneath the crimson silk that Halfrek has covered herself with, liking the fact that it seems to provide for far easier access than the stiff silk of her own gown.

"I think I shall have to speak to him and demand that we all dress like this," Anyanka mumbles against Halfrek's bared shoulder before pressing a kiss there.

"Don't be savage," Halfrek says. "I rather prefer your gown to this."

"Really?" Anyanka asks as she pulls Halfrek towards the window that leads to the garden, removing more of the silk that covers Halfrek as she does so.

When they reach the large glass door, Anyanka presents her back to Halfrek who obediently starts to undo all of the buttons that run down her spine. A tiger enters the garden and Anyanka's quiet laugh echoes in the night air. The tiger has found an easy supper and Anyanka delights in the fact that the man wasn't quite as dead as she had thought. Halfrek leans forward, her body tense against Anyanka's as she takes in the sight.

"His bastard child called upon me," Halfrek admits. "I was delayed by delightful man in Paris who thought if he pleased me, I wouldn't grant his daughter's wishes. You should have been there, nothing quite as grand as this but the screams were much more delightful than anything the man did to me."

"Hmmm," Anyanka sighs as Halfrek's hands tighten on her hips. "I doubt that poor child could have wished for anything that would have brought upon this."

"No I daresay that it would have been a rather bland wish. I will give you this Anyanka your scorned women do seem to ask for the strangest things that bring on these delightful revolutions."

"Yes they do," Anyanka admits. "Now how about you finish undressing me. I believe that we only have a few hours of night left before the dawn arises and the fighting begins again."

Halfrek finishes with the buttons and slips the heavy silk and satin gown from Anyanka's body, she sighs as she starts to unlace the corset only to have Anyanka pull away.

"Come let's dance while we can," Anyanka says as she pulls the other demon into the garden.

The air is sweet with the scent of the freshly spilled blood and the night-blooming jasmine. The tiger ignores them as it consumes it's meal. Somehow they tumble to the ground, their bodies entwined as they kiss. Halfrek breaks away from Anyanka for a moment, causing the older demon to pout.

"I have a feeling that these strange times will be filled with more moments like this," Halfrek says.

"The world is filled with unrest, of course, there will be more moments like this."

Halfrek rolls her eyes at Anyanka as she straddles her waist.

"No silly, I mean like this night with the scent of death and smoke lingering in the air and us finding one another like this," Halfrek says.

Anyanka shifts and flips them so Halfrek is on the ground, and she smiles down at her. It's about time that Halfrek has gotten over her petty little jealousy and realized that Anyanka is talented. The older demon smirks down at her and realizes that she if plays her cards right, she'll be able to manipulate Halfrek into her arms on a far regular basis. She has no desire for men but Anyanka thinks that maybe she could be happy in Halfrek's arms. The other woman should understand how she feels about men in general.

"Enough talking. You seem to forget how short the nights are and how long the hot days are," Anyanka says with a smirk as she grinds her lower body against Halfrek's.

Halfrek sighs. "Never, we'll have a few glorious days I suspect spent in bed with the nights spent in the garden."
